TLDR : Answer Summary
After obtaining a new passport in Bangkok, you will need to take both your old passport and the new one, along with a letter from your embassy confirming the passport change, to the immigration office at the Chaengwattana Government Complex. They will assist you in transferring your extension stamps and any re-entry permits. Note that the process may differ if you have a visa obtained from a Thai consulate abroad versus an extension of stay from within Thailand.

Be that as it may, ;)

Once you get your new passport, you take the old one, the new one and the letter the US consulate gives you stating you got a new passport to the immigration office and they will transfer your extension stamps and any re-entry permits you have.

It's a free service at the immigration office out at the Chaengwattana Government Complex.

Now the real question IS

Do you have a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa you got from a thai consulate in another country?

OR

Do you have a year long extension of stay that you got from the immigration office inside the country?

It makes a difference on what you do once you get your new passport

@Don***
It's okay, many people think they have a year long visa.

I just wanted you to know what stamp you have that allows you to stay here. :)

I posted below what to do once your new passport comes in. (y)

Good Luck

I stand corrected then, sorry but I am new to all of this and still learning. Thanks for the clarification 😏

I say you used an agent because an in country 90 day Non-O is 2000baht from the immigration office, a year extension is 1900baht and a multiple re-entry permit is 3800baht taking the total to 7700baht.

IF

you paid more you paid someone to push the paper for you at the immigration office

@Donnie ******
No you didn't, I would BET you used an agent to get you a 90 day Non-O visa and then a yearly extension of stay. One last time there is NO such thing as a year-long, Non-O visa that you can get inside the country.

IF you have a stamp like this in your passport you do NOT have a Non-O visa you have an extension of stay.

Donnie Evans there is no such thing as a year long Non-O inside of thailand. If you paid 1900baht at an immigration office you got a year long "extension of stay".

Go to immigration and ask them to direct you to the desk that handles this
Stéfan ********
Thai immigration has an office specifically for this purpose

Or just staple both your passports together.

I really can’t see this being an issue.

Immigration can and will transfer an extension of stay stamp. They will not transfer a visa.
Phil *******
Thai immigration office can transfer visa. Ask your embassy for a letter requesting transfer.
Al *******
The answer depends on whether you actually have a visa, or an extension of stay.

Just get a new passport. Carry both as evidently visa’s don’t get transferred. Anyway that’s what I was told and that’s how it worked for me.
