Penalty for over staying DTV - Question

I will be leaving Thailand soon and will have exceeded the number of days allowed (DTV Visa) by 5 days.

I have been informed that the penalty that I will need to pay at the airport is 500 baht per day x 5 days = 2,500 baht.

My question is whether that penalty can be paid by credit card or does the payment need to be in baht?

Thanks is advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The penalty for overstaying a DTV visa in Thailand is 500 baht per day. For five days of overstay, the total penalty is 2,500 baht. While traditionally the payment must be made in cash (Thai baht), recent discussions suggest that Thai immigration may be installing credit card payment terminals at Suvarnabhumi Airport, though it is uncertain if they are currently operational. Therefore, it's advisable to carry cash for the penalty, as there is no guaranteed acceptance of credit cards at this time.

Never over stay, what some official tells you, may not be correct, goalposts often change, stay within the law at all times. This over stay will be on your records and could count against you regarding later assistance you may need. Even the cancellation of your DTV.

Yes you’ll pay 2500 baht (cash) and the fact that imagination isn’t happy with the DTV anything can happen when you try to re enter I would avoid the overstay at all costs

- Do you really get stopped by the police that often that you are this worried? I have never been stopped in 10 years by a single police officer.

DTV_BegPecker personally I've never overstayed. I've lived in Thailand 8 years and had my passport checked twice, so it can happen. I just wanted to make him aware.

I have been in and out on mine a few times and they still seem to be very skeptical - I would not risk it - a DTV like any other visa can be revoked

It's never a good idea to overstay. While you are correct at the financial penalty at the airport if you end up being found on overstay before you reach the airport you will get a lengthy ban and deported

Thanks for the info. I was at immigration last week and they told me that instead of extending my DTV, that it would be cheaper to just pay the penalty. I am not planning on returning to Thailand for at least a year anyway. They also told that they would not cancel my DTV for overstaying

just so you are aware of the implications. It's not up to immigration, it will only happen if the police have a reason to check your passport while you are on overstay
