Can I pay the overstay fee at the airport just before departing Thailand?

Question on overstay processing. I have a flight out of Thailand two days after my current visa expires due to a change in travel plans. I’m wondering: 1) can I just pay the 500 THB per day fee at the URT airport when I check in to depart? 2) I have a domestic leg from URT with a tight turnaround in DMK to connect to my international flight out. If I need to pay the fee in DMK where I will exit Thailand from, what does that process look like at the airport? I only have 1 hour between flights 😬

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about paying a 500 THB per day overstay fee upon departure from Thailand while having a tight connection between domestic and international flights. Various comments suggest that the fee must be paid at exit immigration at DMK or URT, highlighting that the one-hour connection may be insufficient and caution against overstaying due to potential complications.

Just get an extension. Don't be a cheapskate. You don't want to overstay if you can avoid it

just go get an extension

Best not to overstay then you need not worry about your flight, or more importantly getting arrested for being on overstay before you make it to immigration. Just go and get an extension and have a worry free journey

Is your luggage checked right through to your destination? If not, an hour is insufficient time without even the immigration problem.

You might have to change your flight if you do avoid overstay it’s not the fine it’s the overstay stamp in your passport

will rarely, if ever cause an issue.

Did for me 25 years ago returning to Australia.

the issue was?

And let’s face it, the world of travel changed mightily after 9-11, and again post Covid. An overstay stay or ten isn’t going to cause you issues except if all in the same country and you try to get back in lol

The issue was that I spent 2 hours having everything inspected and xrayed, while the officer read nearly every word of 3 older travelling diaries I was carrying. The xray machine damaged a sandal wood statue. You don't give Australian immigration a reason to pull you aside.

I don’t mind being pulled aside really. Always an interesting experience. Part of the travel fun. No country is seeking to deny tourists entry

Depends what you're carrying too. And if Border Control show is wandering around looking for a story, Not so great if your father is waiting outside arrivals to get you. Then chances are when the officers see in the computer what they did last time, they will do the same again. I wouldn't advise overstay even now.

agree- nobody should advise overstay at all. There are generally better options. But the reality is that they occur. Frequently. And generally, you simply pay your fine and exit. Nice revenue stream for the govt

To speed up getting through immigration dont bother queuing go up to someone and tell them you are overstay and then they will take you to the place behind and sort out paperwork.

One hour is cutting it fine

You're going to miss your connecting flight. You need to allow maybe half an hour, all depends on how busy it is, to sort the overstay out at DMK.

No you have to pay when you depart through exit immigration and it's part of the exit process
