The flight I need out of Thailand decreases in price by 10K (baht) 1 day after my 180 days is up. If I exit 1 day after my DTV visa stamp am I likely to lose the visa? I don't mind paying the 500b fee, though don't want my visa cancelled at Suwannabpoom. Anyone have similar experience to this? Thank

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses concerns about exiting Thailand on the day after the expiration of a DTV visa stamp, specifically regarding the potential for losing the visa or incurring penalties. Comments from the community emphasize the importance of leaving before the visa expiration date, suggest options like border runs or extensions, and clarify that while Thai immigration cannot cancel visas issued by embassies, overstaying can lead to fines. The general consensus advises against overstaying due to its long-term negative impacts on future visa applications.

I would not dare to even think about overstaying in Australia or USA or Canada … even a day. Why would Thai rules be any different: plenty of time to re-enter within 180 days or simply taking a local bus from Ekkamai to Poipet at maybe 100 baht travel there. An overstay stamp is never a good thing in your passport or on your records.

No over stay is worth it no matter what the clowns on here say. Will always hurt you in the future. It even proves to other nations and countries you don’t care for visas and could affect those other visa applications. Just cross the border or pay the extra 10k on the flight

Mate we paid 4500thb per each for a last-minute flight ✈️ back to Thailand from HCMC , but it is a small price to pay for a 5 year visa , booked yesterday night and we flight today, normally price is 2000 around per each (or less), we paid more than double

Bounce any time before for a new stamp, or follow Tod's advice. What time is the flight the following day?

Only take carry on baggage and pass through passport control on the day before?

I'm sorry, but why is it so hard to follow the rules? You already get 180 days continuous stay, I see no need to overstay just because it is more convenient.

Look for a ticket out within they 180 days or do a weekend away to Penang or something.

Your visa can't be cancelled INSIDE thailand, it was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs thru the embassy you applied for it at. Thai Immigrations CAN'T cancel it, all they can do is charge you for overstay if you stay past the expiration date of the stamp you are here on

Here's how overstays work

IF you FLY out of the country and you're on an overstay UNDER 24 hours you do not get fined for the overstay, you get a small thai only stamp in your passport that says overstay under 24 hours fine waived

Now if you are 24 hours and 1 second overstay you get fined for TWO days 1000baht 😮

That overstay under 24 hour stamp does NOT count against you in any way shape or form

Could they deny him re-entry? I assume not likely but?

Unfortunately thats not true. I had one day overstay because of a few hours after midnight and several years later it seemed to be a big deal when being interrogated at BKK airport immigration (late last year)

also i had to pay the overstay at that time.

@Stefan ******
I'd like to see an image of that 500baht fine stamp in your passport

when you fly out you don't get fined for overstay under 24 hours, and then once it's 24 hours or more you get a 1000baht fine.

I have never seen a 500baht overstay fine stamp from an airport.

Land borders don't have that rule and if you exit by land you get fined starting the day you overstay.

You sure you flew out and got fined 500 baht for one day overstay?
Todd *********
@Stefan ******
unfortunately you are incorrect. Tod’s answer is accurate. The one day overstay was absolutely not the reason for any ‘interrogation’. Not now. Not ever.

And if you paid 500 baht for one day overstay, realize that you got really unlucky. Because most of us don’t

@Todd ********
i didnt say its because of it. i said it was one of the problems.
Todd *********
@Stefan ******
as Tod mentioned, a one day overstay is utterly irrelevant. And which location required you to pay 500 baht for one day overstay? And that will be recorded on your passport. Have another look

Extension or do a quick border run at some point during the 180 days. I prefer border runs

@Jared ********
yes, simply cross into a neighbouring country for a few days to start the clock again.

It's not 190 but 180 days.
