Im flying out of Thailand on the 21st of April, my visa is valid until the 17th. Do I need to extend for those extra few days or will I have to pay a fine at the airport? If so how much will I be charged for staying 4 days extra on my visa?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your visa is valid until the 17th of April and you're flying out on the 21st, you would need to extend your visa to avoid an overstay. Overstaying results in a fine of 500 THB per day, which would total 2000 THB for 4 extra days. Alternatively, you can extend your tourist visa for 1,900 THB at your local immigration office. It's advised to extend the visa to avoid complications, such as an overstay stamp in your passport.

Thanks everyone - I will go and extend. 🙂

Extend 1900 baht

An extension of your visa is easy enough to get. 1,900 Baht from your local immigration office. Piece of mind as well. Seems to be lots of check points and checks these days as well

And if you go to extend, you could be fined 1600 if you didn’t report your address. That means cost to extend could be 1600+1900=฿3500

Ah....now I get your point

, we are talking about a penalty for not reporting an alien resident. Most resident aliens are reported by Thais.

If there are fines being handed out legally and not a corruption grab, wouldn’t there be lots more Thais guilty of violating this rule? Why are they not being penalized?
Brett *********
@Sean ************
that is because it is a TM30 report for alien. Thai are not alien in Thailand.

@Roger ******
no i did that last month, that's when proof of address was needed TM30

@David *********
thanks, i thought you extended a Non immigrant visa.

@Roger ******
good question, by memory on my tourist visa i only filled in the extension of stay form, copy of my passport main page, passport photo and 1900 bhat, I'm sure that was it,

There was no proof of address needed.
Roger *******
@David *********
can i ask which documents/copies were needed when you extended at Chaeng wattana?
Michael ********
Not needed in BKK. Pattaya or Phuket, then yes. If in hotel and guest house they SHOULD do it for you....
David **********
@Roger ******
no report is necessary, you put down address you are staying, 1st time I extended last year I was in a hotel, Chiang wattanna gave me the extension, this year in a private house ( Nonthaburi) same thing no problem, when filling out the extension I just put my address easy, In saying that people's situation may e different

I certainly wouldnt advise people to overstay and "pay upon exit"

the poster said that he was staying on his own condo, not a hotel.

I have been asked for my passport at every hotel I have stayed at in Thailand. Sean, yeah.... never heard of a Thai being fined but, maybe it happens and we just don't know about it. However....much easier to fine foreigners when they're sitting in front of an immigration officer holding your passport ;).

Here's a brochure that was put in the mailboxat my condo for your reading pleasure.
Roger *******
Non, i have never overstayed but if i did, i am sure it would happen 😉
Sean *************
The poster didn’t say they have been staying at a hotel.

Surely, if they wanted to collect ฿1600, no hotel receipt would suffice.

Question - How many times have you been asked for your passport in your daily Thai life? I haven’t once been asked for mine in many years (outside of where you’d need it).
Roger *******
Maybe a hotelreceipt would serv as evidence if ones stated place of residence is qestioned.

I would personally not risk being subjected to a random visa/period permitted to stay inspection by immigration.
Sean *************
@Mark ******
, I can only agree.

And, I would hate to have been asked to pay one. Because, I’d likely have refused and suffered any consequence.

Funny, that despite ALL the reports, over the past couple of years of this re-reporting your address after even one night spent outside of your registered province, I have yet to hear of a single Thai person being fined for not reporting. But, they have charged countless foreigners? Would you agree?

One common denominator is that it’s always at immigration, not while leaving the country.

(If they could only have this good of a system to keep track of their own citizens, maybe crime would decrease.)
Mark *******
I've never heard a case of that happening because the hotel would face hefty fines (up to 10,000 baht I believe) and even possible jail time. If it happened to me I would tell the immigration officer the situation and hope they would go after the hotel. If I had to pay a fine I would be complaining to the hotel...although it likely wouldn't help.
Sean *************
Not at all.

I am saying that Immigration is giving fines to foreigners, but not to Thais. And, I don’t think it’s right or fair. Every week I hear of a new report. Each instance it’s the same few districts. It appears to be nothing other than a money grab. It’s always a new ‘interpretation’. The latest was just this morning.

The poster did not say where they were. If they fall into one of these jurisdictions, they may be in for a surprise when the extension costs almost double their expectations.

If others were faced with their decision, I’d likely recommend they pay upon exit... if nothing else, just to keep more of their hard earned money from the greedy, corrupt hands.
Roger *******
Sean are you saying that all foreigners who enter Thailand should head to the nearest immigration within 24 hours and report their address?
Sean *************
@Mark ******
, what happens if they don’t?
Mark *******
Correct Roger. Guesthouses and hotels have an online system they use to report your stay with them so you don't have to file a TM30 if you stay at a hotel.
Roger *******
Right, it is still my understanding that address reporting by submitting tm28 and or 30 are for foreigners residing in private homes.

Am i mistaking?
Sean *************
@Roger ******
, this morning, in this group, there was a report from a member who got fined at Jomtien immigration.

Poster deserves to know the financial risks of a trip to immigration, right?
Roger *******
Surely there is no need to report address if he is staying at a hotel or guesthouse?
Robert *******
Fine is 500 Thb a day. If on tourist visa you can extend once with 30 days for 1.900 Thb at local Immigration and avoid the Overstay stamp in your passport. If you get checked during your overstay, you get arrested fined, blacklisted and deported.
