TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the fine for overstaying a visa is 500 baht per day. If you overstay by one or two days, you will be required to pay this fine at the airport upon departure. However, there are serious risks associated with overstaying, including potential arrest and deportation if you come into contact with law enforcement. Overstaying also results in a stamp in your passport, which can impact future travel and visa applications.

100,000 years in jail, or pay a 500 baht fine.

It's typical they give 57 or 58 days on a 60 day stamp.

If the police catch you,a fine and they can ban you from entering Thailand for a long time.

Why over stay? Just extend your visa, you’ll get an overstay stamp in your passport not something you want to have if you come to Thailand all the time

500 baht aday

It's not the fine .

It's immigration prison if you are stopped and checked (I have seen that happen ,)

Two day red stamp.,a red flag to every immigration officer in any country that looks at your passport .

It's a really bad idea

Don't Over stay if you want to go back to Thailand

You should never go on overstay if you can avoid it.

Although it's unlikely with only some days, if you have any interaction with the police (random traffic checkpoint, car with facial recognition camera

or even following a workshop where they check the teacher) while you're even on one day overstay, you can be arrested, taken to deportation jail, and held there until your flight (which has to be a direct one to your home country at your own expenses). Even with one day overstay you'll be banned from Thailand for 5 years when caught.

If you get to the airport then you'll pay a fine (500 per day) and receive an overstay stamp in your passport. An overstay stamp could potentially affect your ability to purchase a visa to another country or enter another country or Thailand in the future.

And if there are no direct flights to your country?

dont think it's an excuse for immigration...

I know! Just saying the if the requirement is a direct flight then that has to be available. No direct flights to New Zealand.

You pay 500 baht per day but I'd avoid it if at all possible. If you come into contact with the police while on overstay you will potentially be arrested, transfered to immigration detention centre and deported

do what i did arrive at the airport with a white cane and sunglasses and when they ask you why you overstayed tell you can't read the dates

Fine, yes (500/day, max of 20k). Ban only starts over 90 days, or if arrested while overstaying any number of days.

@Patrick *******
Yes. Someone else has said that they ignore 1 day if you’re leaving by air. That’s nice to know because it would be easy to overstay due to a flight delay.

Simple rule, avoid overstay. It can't be so difficult.
Todd *********
@Joris *********
lol. Ever surpassed the speed limit in your shitty country and gotten a ticket in the mail?
Joris **********
@Todd ********
I haven't been to any shitty countries for many years. And by the way, I am very close to you. I have never had a speeding ticket. Why? What does that have to do with overstaying?
Todd *********
@Joris *********
I’m happy you got out.

speeding is also a ‘simple rule’. But people do it all the time. Because it’s a bit nonsensical. Just like overstay
Ralph *******
@Todd ********
The difference is you will get caught for overstay but have a good chance of getting away with speeding.
Joris **********
@Todd ********
thanks. Try to avoid both speeding and overstaying in Thailand. Speeding poses an immediate danger to your safety and others on the road, with severe consequences such as accidents, fines, or imprisonment. Overstaying your visa can lead to legal issues, fines, deportation, or being blacklisted from the country. It's best to follow the rules to ensure a safe and hassle-free stay.

@Joris *********
thanks for the tips. I’m not ready for life to be that boring, but perhaps one day. We left our respective nanny state nations to live in a place with more personal choice and freedoms. So I plan to embrace it. Cheers 🍻

Why even ask the question. Don't over stay.

100% it’s not worth overstaying as can cause issues in the future, even if it is a couple of days. Been there and got the t-shirt and regretted it for years

there are hundreds if not thousands of overstays daily. The office for overstay fines in BKK is huge.
