I tried that, workation DTV, tax docs and everything showed my freelance/business income. and the embassy asked me for employment docs, exact same details and they approved it. Seems they just prefer to consider you an employee if you have regular income from clients. I've heard others in these Facebook groups had similar experiences, so it may save you some time that way, otherwise the back-and-forth with the embassy can take weeks each time they request more docs from you.
