doesn’t hurt to try. Just suggest don’t wait until last minute. They might ask you for a few extra documents, which require you to go back and forth to get. Apartment lease, etc.
This will slightly differ depending upon which immigration office you go through, but most want to see updated versions of all documents. My understanding isn’t that it is tedious, but that some immigration offices really don’t like this visa and will try to find any reason to reject an extension
