It only applies to those applying for residency visas. Does not affect tourist visas.

What a strange comment. No one here has indicated they'd be entering illegally! They are trying to get an approved visa. And yes it true, that even with an approved visa, foreigners are being detained at the immigration office currently. Not "fake news". But since you mentioned it, perhaps you're getting your "news" from Truth Social. 🤷‍♀️

I have recently pondered this too as many Americans refer to their homeland as America. As Ive asked around what people think about the word America, almost all people have said they would think your referring to USA. I think because none of the other countries in North or South America refer to thier country as America nor citizenship as American. So, I think its implied often that from "America" means from USA.
