The DTV is a MONEY MAKER for them, I don’t think there’s any reason they’d cancel it. It hooks people into spending a lot of money for years to come, and a decent amount upfront. Also poaches money-solvent expats from other countries that wish they had them in their economy. Tax implications are another story but that can always change. But I don’t think they wanna beat people up who spend so much by staying.

It ferrets out some visa abusers also, giving a longterm option rather than spamming the tourist stamps. So instead of a hypothetical expat leaving 5 or 6 times for several days or months a year, they stay in Thailand and spend that money within the kingdom. It’s smart for them.
