My son overstayed by 2 days. Crossed into Lao for a border run, they allowed him to cross back into Thailand. However, they banned him from entering for 5 years!

My advice is to get a visa. Forget all the border runs and how many days to stay, extensions and problems with immigration officials. Get a visa before you leave your homeland. If we knew 7 months ago, what we know now, we would have pushed harder for the ED visa.

they sent my son back to Malaysia. Where is currently waiting for Visa approval trying to get back in. In Malaysia, he was greeted by a bunch of security guards yelling at him as if he is a criminal. Not fun for an 19 yr old. Insane!

I’m only posting this because had we known this in the beginning, Would’ve pushed harder for a Visa before he left.

All I can recommend is to take ALL of your belongings with you. They may not let back in. Not even to grab your gear then fly home. They’ll send you back to whatever country you made the run.

I learned that an International driver permit is for cars only. If you rent a motorcycle in Thailand, you’ll need an International drivers permit specifically for a motorcycle. Learned the hard way.
