, I happened to be in the area and dropped into the immigration office. Charming and friendly attention as I explained I wished to change over the money and once the 3 months have passed after receiving the extension of stay to possibly another bank that offers a higher interest rate. Absolutely no problem, as long as one communicates this fact to immigration. I asked whether it would be a violation of dropping below the 400,000 that is supposed to remain in there at all times, as that was my major concern. Not an issue you can transfer the whole lot straight into another bank, in my case the 800,000, inform immigration and you're good to go. This may vary from location to location but that's what I was told but that's what I was told today in the Northeast. Thanks to the person you pointed this out. I didn't went to country corn and established that the interest rates are way below 2% in the best case scenario. So it looks like SCB is the best bet, although the queue was so long by the time I got there that I couldn't be bothered and decided to leave it for another day.

, so how about if one has the 800,000 and one just wants to leave it in there at the best possible interest rate possible and never withdraw it. What bank can what kind of account would you recommend?

sure. I plan to go in the next 10 days. If I don't come back to you please message me and I'll tell you. I'm sick of having money in other banks for years without getting any interest of any value so while 2.4% is low it's better than a kick in the hole. Again, it may be a question of some offices being more open than others as is always the case. I'm moving tiny places with the relationship is pretty personal and pleasant and there are hardly any other foreigners there.

, sometimes it's more convenient for people depending on personal situation to use an agent. They might well have the cash but not waste tie it up. Time restraints and travel can also be a factor that comes into play

It's maybe the case in some places but DEFINITELY is not the case everywhere
