I had this issue last year. The tax office wouldn't give me a tax id because "the DTV is a tourist visa not a work visa". I would have to wait 180 days to qualify under residency rules. A bit crazy. This was the first DTV that she had seen. I emailed IBKR and told them that I didn’t have a tax id yet. They said it wasn’t a problem. I could open an account and provide it later. They haven’t asked for one yet. Once I get to the 180-day mark I’ll reapply for a tax id. I’ll try a different tax office too.
