I did exactly that. First on the list of local I O requirements was to set up a bank account - refused everywhere. The new policy apparently.

UK citizen, visa exempt. I’ve got 60 days which I’ll extent to 90. I’ve visited agents, the Immigration Office twice and three banks. Same story - need a Thai bank account for a retirement visa, all the banks no new accounts unless you have a long term visa. Impossible situation.

Not simple nowadays. Immigration officer told me to get a Thai bank account. All banks are now refusing to open accounts for people on temporary visas.
