It is my understanding that such tourist visas must be applied for in one's country of residence so I would not be able to do this while in Malaysia.

Yes, I have although it is difficult for me. All is written in Spanish (as I must apply at the Madrid Embassy and I live in Barcelona). I speak some Catalan and little Spanish and the document on the website cannot be copied and pasted into a on-line translator in order to read it in English. It gives no details about the Guarantor. I does say that accommodation is required for the duration of the visa but I have read conflicting things about this suggesting that only the first night is required and hence my question related to this requirement.

Actually it is for 2020. I will initially be in Thailand for 28 days, then leaving to spend time in Malaysia and return to Thailand for an additional 43 days before my final departure (i.e, two arrivals).
