What are the application process and requirements for a Thailand multiple entry visa, including the itinerary and guarantor details?

I am in the process of planning my first trip to Asia, including Thailand and Malaysia. As I plan to spend some time in Thailand followed by Malaysia and then return to Thailand for some time, I will require a Thailand multiple entry Visa. I have heard contradictory reports about the application process for such a Visa. What I am wondering about is the section on the application form asking about my trip itinerary. It has been suggested by some that it is only necessary to list the place/hotel where I will first be staying. However, the application form asks for a complete itinerary. As I will be travelling for 90 days, this seems a bit much to ask. Also, I am asked to provide a Guarantor in my country of residence (I am Canadian, living in Spain).

Who can serve as a Guarantor (i.e, are there requirements for who can fulfil this role)? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on applying for a multiple entry visa for Thailand, particularly regarding the itinerary required on the application form and the role of a guarantor. Conflicting advice has been received about how detailed the itinerary needs to be, with some suggesting only the first hotel while the form requests full trip details. Additionally, there are questions about who can serve as a guarantor given the user's Canadian residency and current living situation in Spain. Several commenters provide insights into visa options, processes at different consulates, and alternative entry methods, like visa-exempt entries.

The best political correct story without any advice. Well done.

Linda, for your travel itinerary and if this is your first time in Thailand I don't think you would need a METV, as the first entry could be done on Visa Exempt and the 2nd one either SETV from Malaysia or another Visa Exempt and extension inside Thailand. Anyway, if you still want to apply for the METV in Madrid, you need to go there in person or send the document via mail (no appointment needed) hand over all the documents and in 2 business days you can pick up your passport with the Visa if granted, now its 175ā‚¬ for this Visa. If you have permanent residence in Spain you should have a NIE which will serve you to confirm that on the Embassy and being able to apply, a legalised copy will be needed. They also request for a bank statement showing at least 5000ā‚¬, some proof of your job (payslip, contract, etc.), hotel bookings for the whole stay and at least 2 flight tickets in/out Thailand. If you are not employed in Spain, but you are retired you should show a letter from your pension plan stating how much you get. I have never heard about the guarantor in Spain, so this should not worry you much.

Could she do a 30 day exempt. Leave. Come back on another 30 day exempt then extend here for another 30 days ?
Tod *********
They could do that too, BUT as long as they're in a nearby country they could just as easily snap up a single entry tourist visa. There are THREE thai consulates in Malaysia they can get one from :)

@Linda *******
Then you could come here for your first (short trip) using a 30 day visa exempt entry (meaning you get in for free for 30 days with NO visa to thailand). and then when you're in a nearby country you could apply for a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate which would get you stamped in for 60 days when you came back.

@Linda *******
each consulate is different and they do not require the same documentation etc.

Most consulates in S/E asia don't even require you put anything in the guarantor boxes (not in the country you're applying at or for thailand)

That's why I am suggesting you contact the consulate and talk to them.
Ron *******
Have you read the requirements at the particular Embassy or consulate you will apply at?

@Linda *******
yes there is....get somebody else to do it šŸ˜‚

@Bob *****
what I should of said, is you really need help in order to get things done or you can end up going around in circles and not really getting anywhere.
Bob ******
@Ron ******
you must be kidding, in Spain no one speaks English...

@Bob *****
Spain is much like Thailand. It is all about who you know in order to get something done or face the words of 'Sorry, cannot'. šŸ˜

@Ron ******
I guess now the Thai Embassy in Spain works for the Spanish Government. LOL

@Linda *******
and I'm sure you know living permanently in Spain and holding permanent resident "status" are two completely different things and that's why I'm saying CONTACT the consulate and talk to them about whether you can get a 6 month METV from them or not.
Ron *******
@Linda *******
I doubt anybody here can answer your question.

Not many in their right mind would apply in spain due to how they do things.

When it can take 10 days to get a fishing licence, a visa for a non Spaniard is going to be a nightmare.
Tod *********
@Linda *******
RIGHT and the people you NEED to talk to are the people at the thai consulate where you're applying..

@Tod ********
I know that I can but I am seeking information about the application process as indicated in my original post (i.e., related to the Guarantor in Spain and accommodation requirements).
Tod *********
@Linda *******
then call the consulate and see if you can get a 6 month METV from them.

I am a permanent resident here (in Spain) where I will be applying.

@Linda *******
yes I cannot find anything about a Guarantor BUT asking for accommodation for the duration of the visa is standard at some Embassys as can be requiring a flight itenary for the duration of the visa.

The EU Embassys can be strict on their requirements

@Linda *******
Call the thai consulate and talk to them to see IF you can even apply there for a multi-entry visa not being a permanent resident. Most consulates have a residency requirement meaning you need to be a legal resident of that country to apply for a 6 month METV from the consulate there.

@Ron ******
Yes, I have although it is difficult for me. All is written in Spanish (as I must apply at the Madrid Embassy and I live in Barcelona). I speak some Catalan and little Spanish and the document on the website cannot be copied and pasted into a on-line translator in order to read it in English. It gives no details about the Guarantor. I does say that accommodation is required for the duration of the visa but I have read conflicting things about this suggesting that only the first night is required and hence my question related to this requirement.

Iā€™m not an expert but what I do is go for 30 days get a visa exempt when arriving then leave or extend it for another 30 . Stay 30 leave to Malaysia back for another 30
James ********
Just HOW LONG do you plan to be in Thailand...and How many times ...in 2019?
Thomas ********************
That visa would have 90 days validity from the day it's issued. So, once you're in Malaysia you might as well apply for it right quick. The 60 days you get when you enter Thailand (remember to check the stamp before leaving immigration) with the visa can be extended by a further 30 inside the country, btw.

@Linda *******
so yes, come to Thailand visa exempt. That gets you in for 30 days. Then get a single entry tourist visa in Penang or KL, that'll get you back for 60 days

Canada but I am a permanent resident in Spain.

@Linda *******
and the country your passport comes from is what country?

@Tod ********
Does that include applying for a 60 day visa?
Tod *********
@Linda *******
that is not correct, depending on your nationality you can apply for a tourist visa in almost any thai consulate

@Judy *****
It is my understanding that such tourist visas must be applied for in one's country of residence so I would not be able to do this while in Malaysia.
Judy ******
@Linda *******
For your first visit, you can get a visa exempt for 30 days. When you are in Malaysia, you can apply for a tourist visa for 60 days for your second part of 43 days in Thailand.

@James *******
Actually it is for 2020. I will initially be in Thailand for 28 days, then leaving to spend time in Malaysia and return to Thailand for an additional 43 days before my final departure (i.e, two arrivals).
