I was at Chumphon immigration today and heard on officer say something like that, I didn't ask but the person enquiring repeatedly asked and was told 'only if you go home, when you come back you do' or something along them lines(I think it was a Chinese person asking and the spoken English was poor from both her and the official). Either way if you have to or not it is the requirement of the landlord and their fine not yours.
