Yes Chiang Mai immigration needs at least 21 days left on your visa or extension to apply for a non-O visa at their office. They're also strict about having a TM30 filed.

Where are you planning to stay? Find out from the Immigration office where you plan to apply for the extension what THEIR rules are. Each Immigration office in Thailand seems to have their own slight variation of the rules.

that seems a good interpretation of Thai Immigration thinking.

excellent information, if people read your detailed explanation it should relief the stress for visitors. It might also avoid ugly scenes at the immigration desks.

Thanks
@Ellie ******
for the fast response. I'm staying in the same place, so the address in the new system is the same as the old TM30 website. I suppose I will find out if there are any wrinkles in the new TM30 system when I make my next tm47🤓

A group member is threatening to send the police and have you deported because you deleted their post! Seriously! I think that group member is the one who has a problem!

I and many other members appreciate the many hours you put into giving your straight talking, no BS advice. You're a big reason why I've been able to spent 2 years in Chiang Mai on a non-O visa.

Please continue your good work Tod

. I can now go ahead and finalise the dates for my trip. I will leave before the next 90-day is due probably on the 17th February. I plan to return to Chiang Mai on March 31st and start the application for my 2nd extension on 3rd April, before the Songkran holiday.

At Chiang Mai immigration I needed 2 copies of a letter from the bank and bank statements to apply for my non-O visa based on being over 50 years of age. I was told that I can apply for a year extension when there is less than 45 days left on my 90 day non-O. I was told I would need to submit the same documents for the extension as I gave for the initial non-O visa application.
