You dont need to switch, you can use 40,000bt a month for the marriage extention.

Not much you can do, you could apply, be denied and get an extra 7 days but that's about it. Or border/visa run to Cambodia.

Yes, extra stay of 60 days or 1 year extention of stay are your options if your wife is a Thai citizen.
