Thanks Tod. That sounds great, to have a 5 year visa with some exits after a while.

I have so far understood that the visa is one 180 days + 180 days extension, after which the visa is finished, no? Meaning, after 12 months, you would have to apply for a new visa, with the included costs. Not that the same visa is active for 5 years and just needs some border runs. Anyone who knows better, correct me. Thanks

*deposit slip for accommodation rental or hotel booking in Thailand

This is something that bugs me. Why would a person have accommodation already booked if they don't know if they get a visa in the first place.

Hmm.. that kind of complicates things quite a bit. As I don't plan to go to Jakarta, nor to Portugal (in order to fly back to Asia for that matter). Perhaps I should contact some places and ask about this, to be sure what is the best way.

Hmm.. not sure if I understood. So if before I was in Portugal, where I have local registration (no visa needed in EU, passport from Estonia), while I've been in Bali during the pandemic time (for more than 6 months) and flying from Bali.. should I select Portugal as the 'residency' where it is applied from? Or Bali, where I would be flying from (where I am just as a tourist, with no local paperwork)?

Haven't visited Thailand before at all, thus shouldn't be an issue. One question that I may have is about 'Permanent residency/current location' field in the beginning of the application, which also correlates to the next field where it's submitted to. If my native country is in north europe, while I've been living/working in another country in south europe, while current location where I would be flying from is Bali... not fully sure which one I should select there. Safest bet seems to be my native country, although I don't live there for a while already, yet use the passport from it.

Thank you for the detailed answer. I prefer to have an option with the longest possible stay, thus applying beforehand on the website would be best I guess. Accommodation and flight reservations seems to be requirement indeed.. although it puts people in situation where they don't know if they get a visa, while having to spend on those two aspects already.
