I am applying my extension of stay (retirement) with time deposit (1.5% p.a.) since I turned 50 ... now I am 64 years old. Never ever Immigration at CW caused trouble ... even when I applied with another currency than THB (has to be equal to 800 TTHB or more)

Same purpose Gregor, but time deposit since > 15 years. Never caused trouble at CW or before at Suan Plu

Robert, yes, right. But the requirement for 800 TTHB (or *equal to*) is the same for RTPI & MoFA, isn t it ? Are they different indeed ?

Since 15 years living here on extension of stay (purpose: retirement) and every year leaving THA for holiday up to three months (Schengen visa for my long time Thai partner). Coming back with re entry permit ... never ever been asked for proof of funds (or anything else) by IO at BKK.

First question of the bank employee will be: have work permit ? (Wrong question) But as Tod explained, there is no reason not to open an account for a foreigner in THA.
