TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on how to open a personal bank account in Thailand since they need to deposit 400,000 baht for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa, but they currently have a joint account. Several commenters suggest that the user can either open a personal account at a bank (even with a tourist visa) and put the required funds in or obtain a 90-day single entry Non-O visa from a Thai consulate abroad, which would allow them to then open an account and meet the financial requirements for their long-term visa application.

Go to a bank and open an account in your name. There is nothing in thai banking laws that prohibits you from opening an account on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a tourist visa stamp.
You just have to try a few bank branches before you will find one that will do it. Some will say no, but I doubt you'd have to try more than 3 or 4 branches before you could find one that would let you open an account in your name.
There is nothing in thai banking rules that states you need a work permit to open an account. The decision as far as what criteria you need to open a bank account is made by the manager of the branch you're standing in at that time.
If one won't do it, walk out the door and go to another branch to try.
There is a Krungsri bank in Bangkok at EmQuartier that will open a bank account for a foreigner with just their passport and a lease or hotel receipt for the address :O
It's totally up to the manager of the branch you're in as far as what you need for proof of residence..

First question of the bank employee will be: have work permit ? (Wrong question) But as Tod explained, there is no reason not to open an account for a foreigner in THA.
get a NOC papaer from your embassy to open an acc in thai bank very easy.

First off you can't get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa INSIDE thailand :/
You COULD get a 90 day single entry Non-O based on marraige to a thai inside the country at the immigration office
BUT
if you are using banked money for proof of funds and you have a joint account you would need DOUBLE the amount in the account to use it.
That means you'd need 800K baht in a joint savings account (half is yours and half is your wifes).
I'd say get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa from a thai consulate in another country (like Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos, OR Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.
Then enter thailand, get stamped in for 90 days go to the bank, open an account and put the 400K baht in it. That way you will have the money 'seasoned' the required 2 months when you go to apply for your yearly extension before the 90 day stamp runs out.
