 I am not sure cuz the longest I’ve stayed in Thailand is 3 months. Got the 2 month visa exemption and then 1 month extension. Havent been back since. You can try, that’s the only way to know. But be prepared to explain wht you did for 8 months as it’s not normal duration for a tourist.

 you mean you stayed 8 months but didn’t get to visit Chiangmai? Or you’re going back? Cuz if the former, I hope they let you in cuz I enjoyed the North the most in Thailand.
