I was made aware of it on various tefl forums, and got it confirmed at the ministry of labour office here in Buengkan. I could find a link I am sure if you can not yourself.. There are plenty of foreign teachers using this option.
Well.. they are strick with the paperwork.. They did not even care about my yellow book, still had to get the letter of residence from immigration. On the plus side depending how you look at it, they a very slack about the practical things. Once I had the required papers (already on extension based on marriage before that) and handed them over with my passport, my DK license and IDP, I was told that I did not even have to do the colour or brake test because I had the IDP (or maybe its because of my relative young age idk to be honest). I watched some video, but only because it became lunch time for the office workers. They came in and stopped it halfway because they needed the room for something else.
Guess that depends on where exactly you apply.. In Buengkan they require non-o or extension from one to make a license. They refuse to make one if you are on turist or exempt.
One time i had only two full pages left, and some room here and there for a stamp.. When i got stamped out of thailand to go to laos and get the last setv in that passport, the IO was friendly enough to put the exit stamp in a middle page where there was room.. I was nervous he would use one of the two free pages, rendering it impossible to get my visa.
Now you are mentioning your passport is full to the brim.. remember the trip to Lao to get a SETV will take up a little more than two whole pages.. one for each visa (Lao and Thai) and some stamps besides for exit and entry
Tony Wilson I have always made sure not to have overstay as I dont want any potential trouble with visa/extension of stay. I have a family here now and the last thing I want is to jeopardize my being here with them! :)
To clarify.. I wrote wrong in the original post.. I am not on a non o visa based on marriage.. But on a one year extension of stay based on marriage, and that has to be renewed in october
