If you study in public university (under government) you no need to travel anywhere surely. Just extend in Thailand based on docs provided by university. I am not sure about private universities. But think same procedure

he has to pay in Germany tax from German income (from German sources), no need to show this income for taxation in Thailand.

In Thailand he has to show income From local sources only

Thailand and Germany signed Double Taxation agreement. So you will pay Income tax in Germany only from German income and pay Thai PIT only from Income from Thailand sources. In Thailand you can pay PIT as a couple.
