The biggest drawback of this Visa is that it is still classed as a Tourist Visa. That means you can't legally open a bank account. You can't get a residency certificate so you can't buy a car or motorbike. You can't get a Drivers license. Before you jump down my throat, note I said "legally".
It’s laid out clearly, and part of my meeting today was a clear explanation of this and other LTR benefits. Foreign income is not taxable in Thailand if you are on any category of LTR, regardless of how much you bring in to Thailand. Those in the highly skilled professionals category, who are working in Thailand pay 17% tax on the income earned in Thailand. For all the other categories of LTR, income earned inside Thailand is taxable at the regular Thai rates.
Your’e probably correct, although I asked that very question today at the one stop service center in BKK. They advise this visa hasn’t existed long enough for anybody to get to 5 years yet. How they will manage it remains to be seen.
Not sure what to tell you, they were very clear in the application process that the income had to be passive and that any employment income was not counted. Of course it’s Thailand, so we all know that what individual officers and/or locations say may differ
