There are a lot of questions regarding what and what is not liable for tax in Thailand. I stumbled across this document from the revenue department which discusses the rule appertaining to funds where income was earned prior to 2024
This is both a visa question as well as an income tax question. For those living in Thailand more than 180 days per year (in my case a U.S. citizen), retired (non O or non-OA retirement visa) and living on Social Security income, can you confirm 2 things for me. 1). Does Thailand tax you on U.S. Social Security payments if they are remitted to a Thailand bank? 2). Does this depend on the type of visa that one has (resident vs tourist visa)?
Guys i thought we had to leave every 6 months to avoid being a tax resident, but after researching i’ve seen that if you’re in thailand for more than 180 days within a year, regardless of if you leave every 6 months, then you are a tax resident. is this true? + if it is does anyone know the reason as to why we have to leave every 6 months and reenter? i’m just curious
Can someone guide me on the whole rule about leaving before 180 days to avoid being taxed as a Thai resident? I read we can extend for another 6 months, so if we can extend for another 6 months, what happens to the Thai tax rule? I also read further that if you don’t have money coming into a Thai bank account, you can’t be taxed anyway. I’m trying to explain this to my employer and I’m kind of confused. Thank you!
Any other business owners and DTV holders with Australian passport? 21 and plan to live in Thailand until my company reaches usd25k a month. I am An individual carrying on a business in their own capacity and dont have anything registered with my government.
- Is registring as a sole trader and getting ABN enough for proof of business?
-Ill also send emails and letters confirming myself as working there for the length of my visa, proof of current Australian clietns and will not take on any Thai clients. —Ive got financial proof of funds. Valid passport, photos, application, app fees not a problem, also an address both Aus and Thailand.
Income tax requested for DTV application - not having one since being a nomad:
Got requested - Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 500,000 THB, (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsor letter) (already provided)
+ Provide the salary slips/income for the past 6 months, please highlight them in your transaction records, and provide your income tax last 2 years.
I have 2 questions:
1. Since, I've been moving around multiple countries (less than 6months each country) - It wasn't required by any of these countries to pay income taxes - what should I attach as income tax for the last 2 years?
2. I attached the bank statements for 3 months with over 500.000vnd.
Now that I will have to attach the payslips for the past 6 months, should I just highlight them in that 3 months bank statement - or should I attach another 6 months transaction record which I haven't got?
