most likely because they could not read or understand the document u shared- was it translated into Thai? But, they've seen enough UK licenses to know what they look like. It doesnt mean that all police will not require possession of a IDP.

yes, but that insurance that comes with the bike, and other vehicles here along with annual registration renewal, is hardly sufficient, especially if a foreigner is unfortunate enough to have a serious accident with a Thai national. Most do not add additional, understood, but one should know the risk involved. Again, provided insurance insufficient for any serious or major accident, especially if the foreigner is at fault (is there any other kind--- hahahaha).

legally, required, even with prescription, to declare them on arrival-- at least I have read that.
