WISE is the safest option, the problem with Wise though is that they charge a very high commision depending on where your card/bank is from.

When I was using WISE I had to pay a ฿1,000-฿1,500 fee for my ฿18,000 rent.

It really depends on where your bank is from

lots of good furniture stores here, just sell what you have if you’re gonna relocate here.

About the computer, I didn’t want the hassle of shopping for all the pieces so I disarmed mine and brought it in my checked luggage. I just bought the PC tower, power supply and the screens.

I would open a backup account in your home country just in case

You’ll be fine. I would book a cheap flight to some city in Vietnam or KL just in case. They’re pretty cheap

I know this is a DTV Visa group, but for anyone that’s still on an ED Visa, it’s still possible to open a bank account. Just go try small branches and go very early in the morning. I opened mine on April 30th and it’s still working just fine.

Managed to open it with only 2 months left on my 1 year visa.

Anonymous participant 262 I did this too for like 2 years. The problem is that I ended up paying like a ฿1,000 fee every time I paid rent, so having a thai bank acc has saved me plenty of money already

I have lived here for two years, I’ve never really needed a thai bank account.

The only thing I’m really missing out is not being able to use QR payment. But I just bring some cash with me and lots of places accept credit cards.
