I started down the same process a couple years ago after having done this in another country but after 3 branches of Bangkok Bank getting all kinds of requirements, I found a reasonable Visa agent and the Bank, Visa was all done very quickly, of course you have to find an agent who is reasonable.
I transfered 800k from my US bank to Bangkok Bank a couple years ago over several transfers using Wise, just in case of screw ups I kept it under 10k, recently transferred most back using Bangkok bank transfer and it was around 1000 baht per transfer no matter the amount and it was in my account in the US that night. As I am getting older I thought it better to have most of my money in the USA for my beneficiaries to have easier access in case.
I use Wise to transfer from my US bank to a Thai bank monthly, it works great except it normally takes 5 working days each time I do a transfer but the fee is very cheap. Like the one person said the first time it ask for passport and photo but after that verification it’s quick to setup a transfer.
