Medicare is awful. I’m glad your friend had insurance! Sounds like it was definitely worth his 2million accident😱 hope he had a good recovery!

ok. Doubt all you want. I’ve got the records, the credit card receipt. I know what I got and what I paid. I will choose medical treatment in Bangkok any day. I already told the ophthalmologist I will be back end of this year for cataract surgery vs the debacle and expense of US. He laughed and big smile said “I don’t blame you at all”. Anyway, I had a wonderful experience, my friend had even better experience and we will definitely make Thailand our “go to” for care🙏😊

I had a wonderful experience with Bangkok Hospitals International Medicine dept. Both in Bangkok and Pattaya. No one asked me about coverage or bank account. I don’t think they thought I was Thai😅 My companion had an emergency and was seen in Bangkok in a private room, private nurse, an orthopedic surgeon with degree from UCLA (CA USA), an arthritist specialist, X-rays and MRIs, blood work, urine work and he just walked in, no drill and walked out after paying roughly $2k. OMG. I paid $800 in Phoenix Arizona as my deductible (Medicare) for walking into my local ER with excruciating back pain. For $800 I got an X-ray and a pain shot in the butt! I’ll go to Thailand for any medical care I need, anytime.

I follow a YouTube blogger who brought his 73 yr old mother to Thailand. She fell and broke her hip. Surgery, hip replacement, private room/private hospital, rehab $12k. He feels $12k would have been almost the deductible with Medicare. Could be right. With Medicare, I paid $800 for an ER trip with excruciating back pain. I got a low back Xray and a pain shot in the butt.

I’m surprised to hear that. I went to Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya for a scratched eye and a full exam & meds from an English speaking MD ophthalmologist was about $72.

Medical care facilities are excellent and inexpensive. Pharmacies are very reasonable and can diagnose and sell prescription drugs. Unless you have a condition you’re concerned about flaring up, I wouldn’t worry about insurance for 6 months. Insurance probably costs more than if you just pay for care if need be.

That American lawyer on YouTube Integrity Legal just commented a few days ago that all this talk of taxes is all speculation. Yes, if you are in Thailand more than 180 days you are considered a tax resident. That is, and always has been the case. But for now, there is no published law about any foreigner paying taxes on their pensions or income brought into Thailand. He also advised to be wary of any online tax service providers. For now, there is absolutely nothing on the books about foreigners paying tax.

just to be devil’s advocate, what’s the difference of a friend loaning the required $ into your account and a visa agent doing the same?
