Unless you only stay out 1 day each time, you'd be hard-pressed to make it to that third entry if you extend the first two and use to their max potential.

, thanks for the great explanation. Just to clarify one step further: the final entry of an METV must be before the end of the validity date listed on the visa? Or is that the date only the first entry must be made by?

I wasn't aware that nearby embassies no-longer issue METVs to non-residents of that country. When did that change? The last time I got a double-entry visa from Vientiane was in October 2013.
