Was at Chiang Mai immigration today for TM30 check in after spending a week in out of Thailand then 2 night in BKK. Immigration officer specifically told me no need to check in for TM30 if I’m coming from spending time in another province and returning home to the same address in Chiang Mai.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent experience at Chiang Mai immigration revealed that if you return to Chiang Mai from another province within Thailand, you do not need to check in for TM30, according to an immigration officer. However, this policy seems to vary across different locations, as others reported needing to submit TM30 notifications for any travel, even within the country. The discussion includes mixed experiences from places like Phuket and Krabi, highlighting inconsistencies in the enforcement of TM30 reporting.
In Krabi i was told directly by am immigration official if you leave the province even for a single night you must report your address as soon as you return ( within 24 hours )
I think I should delete that comment where I said more and more offices wer getting on the band wagon about not filling TM30's for in country travel. It seems only a few do that and everyone else does it every time they travel :(
What helps also is NOT giving your passport or personal data to places where you stay (have a thai reserve the room, check in, get the key etc) then you're sure they didn't do a TM30 on you :P
