The fact is, they don't really want foreigners staying long term in Thailand. That means you'll always have difficulties with visas, paperwork etc. etc.

It's actually far simpler to live elsewhere and just visit Thailand for a holiday. The Thais will lose millions of baht as a result though, but they won't care.
