Yeah, they love their paperwork. It is not the best for SP because of the demands you mentioned. I have helped friends from Japan get their visa from Taiwan since going online and recently as last month, so I know what it takes to get approved, it is not that different to when I got it except for the immigration agency part and longer wait for interview. You were unlucky with your tough interview

Their interview with me was not bad, just confirming my work, friendly. Yes, you need to be on point with paperwork but it is not on par with Malaysia or Tokyo. I know several Tokyo residents like myself who chose to get their DTV from Taipei over getting it in Japan.

Good choice, very helpful embassy and they are responsive to enquires via email.

Laos requires 3 months seasoning. Malaysia infamous for being strictest for DTV approval 6mths of booked accommodation, 3-6 months seasoning needed. Japan is very demanding as well, as a resident of Tokyo I chose to go nearby to Taipei to get the DTV. Tokyo embassy seems to be issuing METVs for DTV applicants. Fukuoka and Osaka are easier than Tokyo. Vietnam, Jakarta, Manilla are friendly SEA embassies and have approved with just the final balance of 500k THB.

You should contact the London embassy to double check. They have been approving one-month statements but like you say there are 3 month rumors.
