Now that 60-day extensions are official, does it now mean that people with embassy letters and came to close the loop for a Nov 30 extension, but instead, received a Dec 30 ext, are now legit? Because according to Benjamin (about 2 weeks back), is that there was no legal basis for the Dec 30 extension. Any light shed is appreciated.
, despite what might seem "official" (given that it has been checked by the Immigration Investigations Division), the Dec 30 date is still taken skeptically by people (even by close friends) who have stayed long enough in Thailand to know (and have suffered) the pitfalls. Experience being the best teacher, I take your counsel with weight and much appreciation.
TOD: "...immigration offices got under consideration stamps to get a 30 day embassy request extension"
My embassy letter did not specify a 30-day extension. It simply stated, "...wishes to apply for an appropriate visa or an extension of stay" - so getting an extension to Dec 30 (effectively getting a 60-day extension) is still logical and does not over-extend the embassy's request. FYI
When the Immigration staff (Promenada location) handed me back my passport, he specifically opened my passport to the page where it says, "DEC 30", and asked me with a reassuring smile, "Äre you happy now?". A lot of people got the Dec 30 extension and people were jumping up and down with joy...some were hugging, in full view of all the staff who were likewise smiling - so everybody knew the Dec 30 date. The Dec 30 extension wasn't one staff's oversight. If that date was still wrongly stamped, then it means an entire Immigration location together with all its staff are wrong - which is highly unlikely. My 2 cents. Thank you Tod, you guys are doing an incredible (and sometimes thankless) job.
