Get at least a tourist visa first. Even then it may not be easy. It varies from bank to bank and even varies between branches of the same bank. Many more people use agents but that will cost you more money.

Depends on what visa you have. . . With the right visa as many as you want or at least until your passport is full of stamps.

Is it legal for me to work on my Thai partner's farm during harvest season without a work permit?

It is not legal so the question comes down to will you be reported to the authorities or will you be observed by officials.

Farm work is strenuous and the weather even in the cool season is still hotter than most farang would want to work in.

Probably better to pay a local minimum wage for the odd days work .
