Samui immigration insist upon you coming in with all documents (except time dependant bank papers and medical certificate) 45 days before to inspect the paperwork and to make your appointment .

Surely this is irrelevant?

Immigration require a certified year's bank statements, passbook (where applicable) and the letter certifying the balance.

Yes, however in the 1st 30 days it is essential to get a thai bank account opened with 800k baht deposited, as this needs to be 'seasoned' for at least 60 days before you go to immigration to extend the visa for a year.

Thank you both for this information.

As the Thai Embassy in the UK weren't answering my queries about applying for my wife as "trailing spouse" we applied separately for our non immigrant O, 90 day visa's.

We are prepared to, if 100% necessary, deposit 2 lots of 800K baht, but obviously if this can be avoided then this would be preferable.

Should we open a joint account or 2 individual accounts, and which bank is the recommended go to in Samui?
