Long-term Resident Visa (LTR)

Hey folks,

Is there anybody thinking about to stay in Thailand with the new LTR Visa?

In my eyes, the current requirements, makes the LTR Visa not more interesting than the previous Visa.

What are the big differences?

- For retirees there was the „Non Immigrant O Visa“.

- For wealthy people there was the „Elite Visa“.

- For investors and people who wanted to work in Thai industry, there was the “Smart Visa”.

- For the “Work From Thailand Professionals” who are really interested on a better and easier Visa there are still too much requirements.

So what's the big deal?

The only benefit I see is the extension interval from 90 days to 1 year.

But what are the other big benefits?!

I don't get it.

Maybe someone can explain it to me.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the new Long-term Resident Visa (LTR) in Thailand and how it compares to existing visa options like the Non Immigrant O Visa, Elite Visa, and Smart Visa. While the LTR allows for a 10-year stay at a lower cost than the Elite Visa and reduces the frequency of 90-day reporting, some users express skepticism about its overall benefits, particularly concerning the annual reporting and verification process. Others see it as a viable option for remote workers who don't need to maintain funds in Thai bank accounts.

The only good point for me is I don't have to be in Thailand on a certain date to renew my retirement visa.

For “work from home” it’s a great and valuable option”. I work for a company in Singapore and paid there. But want to stay in Thailand and work from house there. I don’t need to pay taxes in Thailand just in Singapore. Now i don’t need to have any money sitting in Thai bank account. Lot easier than a marriage visa. The other visa are not so attractive

I have applied for the Work From Thailand Professional category and have been advised that at the 12 month reporting I will be asked to provide all my paperwork again (i.e. prove that I am still working for the foreign company). I am planning to retire in around 4 years so THB50k / 4 = THB12.5k per year, compared to my current marriage visa which is THB4.9k per year including re-entry permits, so for me the only benefit would be skipping maybe 2 x 90 reports each year

. Great information about annual report requirements. I did same calculations for my non immigrant OA visa. The OA is much cheaper than the equivalent LTR. 90 day reporting isn't a big deal. I do it online

thanks mate - I have never had to do the 90 day reporting (too much travel) and had heard the website can be unreliable, but good to hear you have used it successfully. If they approve my application I will write back to them and ask them to clarify the 12 month paperwork requirements

My concern is the annual reporting. Will it be a visa extension or visa renewal with full verification process, supply evidence of assets, work, etc.

not sure anyones worked those details out yet. My guess is similar to the Elite where you turn up, show passport and get stamped for another year. We’ll have to wait and see what transpires. With no one ready to extend/report before a year it could take some time for details to emerge.

I don’t know how the tax rate will work but on the surface the flat 17% tax looks interesting.

It’s a 10 year visa for 50,000 baht. 550,000 baht cheaper than an elite 5 year one. No need for interaction with immigration other than a yearly notification. No need for yearly funds in Thailand, Perhaps it will suit your circumstances. Certainly of interest to many.

I tried to understand the requirements. Some people say “and” and some say “or”. Such as 1M$ USD assets and/or 80k USD salary for 2 years.

But as you say, for those who fit, much better than dropping money on an Elite Visa.

.... it's 'and' for the global wealthy citizen category. Same for the wealthy pensioner category but requirements are less
