Hi,

I’m 59 and planning to live in Thailand with my girlfriend. Should I apply for a TR or Non O - long stay (1 year) visa just to get there?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, 59 years old, is considering whether to apply for a TR (Tourist Visa) or a Non-O (Non-Immigrant Visa) for a long stay in Thailand with their girlfriend. Comments indicate that the TR visa allows a 60-day stay, extendable by 30 days, while the Non-O visa provides a 90-day stay, which can be extended for one year if requirements are met. One response mentions the Non-OA (long-stay) visa, which is valid for one year and allows multiple entries if medical insurance is provided.

Get the Non Imm O if you plan to stay longer than the 60 days a TR visa gets you!

thank you! I’m working on my criminal records check and my medical clearance now for the non O. I figured I’ll need it at some point and doing it while I’m still in California is easier..

You only need med clearance and criminal record check for the OA visa, you could go for that visa, it's multiple entry and valid for 1 year, each entry gets you stamped in for 1 year. It does require health insurance.

TR is 60 days. Extendable once for 30 days. Non O is 90 days. Only extendable for one year providing you meet the requirements. A non OA is valid for a year and a multiple entry. Gives you one year on entry if you have medical insurance for that period.

Non-O I think is only 90 days, after that you can extend.
