What are the options for a long-term visa for retirees over 50 in Thailand?

You can apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 at most immigration offices when you have between 15 and 21 days left on your current entry stamp or a 30 day extension from that entry stamp.

You need to meet the financial requirements of either banking 800K baht in a thai bank in your name only transferred in from abroad, OR you need to get 65K baht a month in income from your country. (Being Canadian you CAN get the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter from your consulate here and use that as proof of funds).

You apply for the Non-O visa for 2000baht, it goes under consideration between 14 and 20 days, you go back at that time and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in your passport

THEN

you wait until you have 30 days or less left on that stamp (another 2 months) and apply for a yearly extension of stay for 1900baht which is granted that day and if you need to you buy a re-entry permit so you can come and go during that year and not lose the extension.

Seeing as you're here IN thailand now, that's the ONLY option you have.

OR

you can just enjoy your time here as a tourist, go back to Canada and apply for a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A visa from a thai consulate there.

Okay, so now we know the O/P is over 50, Canadian, here on a 60 day tourist visa with an entry stamp that runs out on the 17th of May.
