Is Wise (formerly TransferWise) a reliable service for transferring money to Thailand from Switzerland?

Please let me know if anyone in the group is using TransferWise, or now just Wise, to transfer their money. I am planning to do, but would be good to have some feedbacks or if anyone using it especially from the security perspective. My current plan is to transfer from Switzerland to Thailand. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users in the community report positive experiences with Wise for transferring money internationally to Thailand, especially from Switzerland. They emphasize its reliability, security, competitive rates, and quick transfer times. However, users also caution about the bank transaction limits (like the 50,000 Thai Baht rule) and varying experiences with different Thai banks for receiving funds. Overall, Wise is highly recommended for expats needing to transfer money, but it’s wise to research specific bank policies and charges.

I lost my debit card and am unable to withdraw cash now. Since I am from Colombia, my country is not listed as one of the wise eligible countries to receive a debit card. Would you happen to know if there are any other options available, such as Wise or other methods, that I could use while on my trip? Thank you in advance!!🙏
Robert ********
For large amounts, the Wise fees are significant. Swift may be the best choice.

Very good service

transfers below 50k are fine and generally take just a couple of minutes - sometimes instant.

50k or above can meet delays and take days

There is also a transfer limit of, i think, about 2m baht

- i just did a

bht transfer from UK bank and it was in my bangkok bank account in 13 seconds. But i agree it can take longer but normally due to weekends and thai bank holidays.
Gary **********
I use it regularly with no problems, except recently there have been delays for over 50K THB transfers to Bangkok Bank. Additionally the next best transfer rate I’ve found is with the XE app, it sometimes beats Wise but I’ve never actually used it. This website compares foreign exchange transfer rates..

No issues, been using for 3 years USD to baht.

Following.

Most banks in Switzerland will only charge 2 Chfr. for a transaction.

About the rate and how much procentage Thailand bank will charge I wonder.
Nigel *********
@Marc *******
Thai banks don't charge anything. Atleast I've never been charged. Wise transfers between their Thai bank account (mainly Kassicorn) and my Thai bank account.
Marc ********
@Nigel ********
Yes but I am talking international transfer.

Switzerland to Thailand

I know my bank will only charge me about 2USD for any amount.

But I am not sure if Thai bank.

Bangkok Bank in my case will not take maybe 1%?

When I used to send like 8000b a month to Kasikorn I was told Kasikorn takes 250b out of it
Nigel *********
@Marc *******
sorry, thought we were talking about Wise. Yes, this recent transaction cost me 250thb to receive money from a foreign bank account. Wise doesn't charge me for receiving money.
Brian **********
I’ve used it and Wise works great and good exchange rates. I also received their debit card which works great in Thailand. Cheapest overall costs I’ve found.
Paul ***********
All friends use good rate
Siegert ********
Did many times, works well. Lower amounts are instantly transferred, low costs and good rates. Max per time you can transfer is 2mio baht.
Lee ************
I use it every week, works perfectly for me 👍
David ***********
I use it every week, no problem, I’ve also done a couple or larger amounts of

Wise is pretty efficient and a decent value , but I'm a little put off by the bank account payment method. This method is the only way to get the cheapest fee on wise. They require you to give ALL your login credentials to your source bank account web access. You're literally handing over your login, password and security questions to them. It requires a leap of faith. I don't use my primary bank account for wise, I use a separate account that never has a lot of money in it. I transfer money from my primary bank to the secondary, then to wise. You can use a credit card, but I think this comes with increased fees.
Kim *********
@Jackie **********
this is nonsense you don't give them any information
Jackie ***********
@Kim ********
you were not contradicted? 😂😅 Wow, you really are a delusional maniac. You seriously think I'm lying? That I didn't have to enter my bank account credentials? What would be my motivation for that?
Jackie ***********
@Kim ********
i get it, you're convinced of your own infallibility, and you can't imagine being incorrect about anything, so you waste your time disparaging people on Facebook who have different experiences. I setup my source bank account with wise WHILE IN Thailand. Naturally, establishing a debit relationship with my bank from *outside* the USA is going to require more security steps, but you can't cope with that fact. You gotta say it's "nonsense" and imply that I must be hallucinating. I don't see other people here agreeing with you, yet there's another person on here who knows what I'm talking about. So please spare me your arrogant posturing. Admit that other situations might be different than yours.
Jackie ***********
@Kim ********
yes you do. Obviously you've never made a payment from a bank account before. If I was hallucinating, why are other people addressing the exact issue I'm talking about? Maybe you should think twice before mouthing off on Facebook
Kim *********
@Jackie **********
talk about mouthing??
Jackie ***********
@Kim ********
since you're not an American, why don't you stfu and content yourself with the fact that other banks from the USA might behave differently from your experience, instead of harassing people who contradict you on Facebook 🤔
Kim *********
@Jackie **********
i don't care - in Denmark I have never given wise that information and I have used them for 3 years now. Another member of this group has said the same. I have absolutely no intention of harassing you or anyone else But I see that harassing comes naturally to you with foul language - something went wrong in your upbringing I guess. Besides that I was not contradicted - you were hence your rude reaction. To be civilized comes hard to some.
Jackie ***********
@Kim ********
I've been transferring from wise to Thailand for 4 years now every month. When I did it the FIRST time, I had to setup bank details for the source of the money and this required entering all my login information for the bank. I am speaking from experience, not guessing. So please stop harassing me. You see there are other people addressing this issue and explaining it
Kim *********
Kim *********
@Jackie **********
i have made several payments from my bank account to wise and no information whatsoever of what you mention. I am talking from experience NOT guessing!
อ้วน *********
@Jackie **********
they use plaid when you link your account. You are not giving wise any of your info at all. That window that opens that you are typing in is a remote signin of your institutions website. The only thing plaid gives to wise is the cookie that is saved that says you have access and can interact with your institutions site. The same way if you hit the open in New window button on a browser using your banks site, but you don't need to login again. That cookie is all that wise gets. They don't have your login info at all.
Jackie ***********
@อ้วน ********
but then plaid has it. I'm squeamish about giving out my bank password to anyone other than the bank.
Kim *********
@Jackie **********
which you don't
อ้วน *********
@Jackie **********
no. plaid is opening the window. You are only ever logging into your institution's server. Think of it as a tunnel you can see the end of. Opens to the same place you login at your bank. Trust me if hackers could do what you are saying the world would be *ucked right now.

I don’t have any experience with Bangkok bank yet, have been thinking about trying them for monthly withdrawals from my 401k in the future. But I’ve had great luck with my small town bank account in the states and using Wise for normal transfers. Unless I’m missing something that makes Bangkok bank better I agree with you that kasikorn works great.

@Jeff ********
If you send or receive over 50,000 USD you do. Bangkok Bank is best for Wise.

I paid one of my Thai landlords via Wise. Very easy.
Stein ***********
The best way to transfer money 😊👍
Nigel *********
What can I say that hasn't been said already. Not without flaws but pretty damned reliable. In fact, just to compare, I've just received a payment from America via bank transfer and the amount lost through bank fees and a damned poor exchange rate would have paid for her taxi from Phuket to Khao Lak and back again.

I'm urging all my overseas guests to pay through wise.

Use this link to sign up and I get sg$100 and you get your first transfer free ( up to sg$900). You're welcome
