Just a heads up for any Scots travelling to Thailand 🇹🇭
I had a small issue arriving at Don Mueang Airport recently—mainly my own doing, but worth sharing.
I entered Thailand on a 6-month METV visa. When filling in the TDAC form, both “nationality” and “country of residence” use drop-down menus. Normally, as a Brit, you scroll down and pick United Kingdom—but on this form, it didn’t appear the way I expected.
Scrolling back up, the first thing I came across was “SCT – Scottish”. Thinking Thailand might have separated the four home nations, I selected that.
On my first two entries, it wasn’t flagged. But on my third entry (Laos to Don Mueang International Airport), a supervisor was called and I was asked to take a seat.
All sorted within about 5 minutes—no drama—but they explained I should have selected “GBR” (United Kingdom), which is correct and what I’ll use going forward.
Just sharing so nobody else gets caught out. If I’d seen GBR first, I’d have picked it—there’s no separate code for Welsh, Northern Irish or English.
