What should Scots know about filling out the TDAC form when entering Thailand?

Just a heads up for any Scots travelling to Thailand šŸ‡¹šŸ‡

I had a small issue arriving at Don Mueang Airport recently—mainly my own doing, but worth sharing.

I entered Thailand on a 6-month METV visa. When filling in the TDAC form, both ā€œnationalityā€ and ā€œcountry of residenceā€ use drop-down menus. Normally, as a Brit, you scroll down and pick United Kingdom—but on this form, it didn’t appear the way I expected.

Scrolling back up, the first thing I came across was ā€œSCT – Scottishā€. Thinking Thailand might have separated the four home nations, I selected that.

On my first two entries, it wasn’t flagged. But on my third entry (Laos to Don Mueang International Airport), a supervisor was called and I was asked to take a seat.

All sorted within about 5 minutes—no drama—but they explained I should have selected ā€œGBRā€ (United Kingdom), which is correct and what I’ll use going forward.

Just sharing so nobody else gets caught out. If I’d seen GBR first, I’d have picked it—there’s no separate code for Welsh, Northern Irish or English.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Scotsman recently experienced confusion with the TDAC form upon arriving in Thailand on a METV visa. He mistakenly selected 'SCT - Scottish' rather than the correct 'GBR - United Kingdom' option. While this issue was resolved quickly, he shared his experience to help others avoid similar mistakes. The thread highlights other users' experiences with various country codes and visa-related confusion upon entering Thailand.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

There are many silly errors and confusions on that TDAC list of countru-ies - Switzerland is under F (Federation of Swiss etc), there is still East and West germany, Lao is under P (Peoples' Republic etc). Heaven only knows from where they downloaded that antiquated list! But welcome to Thailand!!

I can understand why, at the moment, you feel that way about admitting to being American. I sympathize with the American people during this current term of presidential office.

It truly isn't a reflection of the American citizens šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ˜žšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

I’ve been tempted to select Scottish, but essentially our passports are British so it’s a given for me, I have seen comments about this before others entering selecting Scottish without issue, I just got back from Dubai yesterday and onward via DMK up northeast,

Off topic, but I had to take a pic in Dubai airport before I left just to show all our English friends, the value of our currency really is no different,,, šŸ˜†

Jonnie Dixin it's common that some currency exchange places will give a lower value for Scottish banknotes. Many won't take them at all, but those that do often do give a worse rate than Bank of England ones.

It’s common yes, unfair also yes, but my photo suggests that at least some well respected places do value Scottish notes identically, I travel between Dubai and Bangkok at least 6-8 times each year and hadn’t previously noticed Scottish currency on their live currency charts before, albeit I had more free time at the airport in that occasion.
