So, I'm not sure if this is general knowledge, as I've been told before.
I opened a Bangkok Bank account ten days ago. I then used Wise to transfer ten thousand pounds (400k baht). I also transferred some extra, realizing how quickly Wise worked and that you can be like a Thai and use the QR code with it to pay private accounts. The bank just rang me this afternoon to tell me that the 400k cannot be touched.
It shows I have the money in the bank, but my available balance is only twenty-six thousand. She says it is trapped for 6 months. Luckily, I had put it in there, and I was going to forget about it.
So, each year I have the four hundred k required, but I'm letting people know in case your situation is different.
When transferring your funds to your Thai bank via Wise for your first 12 month visa approval, is the Reason - Savings selected on the Wise transfer ok for Thai Immigration?
I arrived in Thailand on a 3-month Non-O visa. After securing a lease and getting a letter from immigration, I was able to open a bank account. (Bangkok Bank refused me even with the immigration letter, but Kasikorn Bank accepted.)
Now I’m preparing to apply for a 1-year retirement visa. I have a few questions for those who have gone through this process, especially without using an agent:
1. Is medical insurance required for this visa?
2. How long do I need to wait after transferring the required funds before I can submit my application?
3. After the extension is granted, do I need to keep the full amount (or part of it) in the account, and if so, for how long?
Hi… I’m writing on behalf of a friend who’s interested to retire in Thailand. She holds a Singapore passport so able to enter Thailand with exempt visa. She wants to apply for a non O retirement visa… with the current situation with opening account with banks… how is she going to transfer the 800,000 baht if she’s not allowed to open a bank account ? Appreciate it very much to hear your advice. Thank you
Looks like WISE dropped the category for "Funds for long term stay in Thailand " or words to that effect. Just did a transfer and didn't have that as a reason. Everyone I have done so far this year had that as a reason. I believe though that isn't really necessary for a renewal on a marriage extension of stay.
I am currently coming to the end of my OA 1 year + 1 year retirement visa and instead of returning to Australia and starting the whole process again I intend applying for the "in country" Non O visa based on retirement.
Today I approached my Kasikorn bank branch here in Chiang Mai and enquired regarding the document/letter regarding confirmation of transferring funds (800,000 baht) from my Australian bank account to my Kasikorn bank account, as an international transfer.
The service staff wasn't sure that they could provide that service and so I spoke to a service officer at " head office". That lady said she could email me a "bahtnet" document but she wasn't sure whether immigration would accept it.
I know that in the middle 6 months of the visa year ( 1 year retirement visa ) the balance can drop from 800000 baht to 400000 but needs to be back at 800000 baht 3 months before renewal . My question is does the money to top it back up HAVE to come from abroad or can it be topped in cash or transferred from another Thai bank account ?
Hi everyone 🙂 I am planning to apply for a one year extension of stay in January 2021 when my permission to stay expires on my O A visa. Is it permitted to transfer the 800,000baht from overseas to my Thai bank account now? or do I need to wait until about two months before my application? I was just thinking about taking advantage of the good rate at the moment against the Aussie dollar. Thanks
