Applied Embassy Washington DC. After one week asked for additional paperwork. This included tax returns and a letter stating self-employed as digital nomad.

Two weeks to the date, today received the approval.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. The process is very straightforward. Just in time for my flight leaving in 10 days🙌

For reference purposes:

Just got approved for the DTV.

Type: workcation (full-time employee for a company in The Netherlands)

Location: Ho Chi Minh City

Application date: 6 Jan

Documents supplied:

6 months bank statements, Revolut, with closing balance of 15,500 euro (over 500,000 baht)

1 year worth of payslips

Employment contract, translated to english by myself (not legalised/authenticated)

Letter from my senior manager approving remote work specifically for the DTV (not legalised/authenticated)

Legalised Chamber of Commerce extract of the company i work for

On the 9th I got requested for extra documents, requesting more details of my role in the company, CV, portfolio, work examples and supporting materials demonstrating experience and qualifications.

Wrote a letter explaining my role, going into detail what work i do and what my daily workday looks like. Reminded them that i am a full-time employee, not a freelancer so I can't provide a portfolio, work examples, etc. Also mentioned due to the nature of my job, i am bound by a confidentiality clause.

Went to "pending approval" on the 10th.

Approved today.

So happy as I was a little afraid i would get rejected due to the documents not being authenticated by the dutch embassy as it was advised. Glad that stress is now over.

Successful DTV, step by step guide - Hope this will help

- application from Cambodia

- Digital nomad route

Initial application submitted in the last days of December, with pdf of the entry visa stamp and the usua passport info

On Jan 8th I got a request for additional docs, namely evidence of funds and company/contract docs

I submitted the following - cover letter explaining in short bullet points the contents of supporting documents

1. Bank statement from my bank account in my home country (3 months) showing a balance on 07-01-2025 of XXXXX €

2. Conversion of that amount in $ ($XXXX) plus pdf conversion page generated by XE online exchange

3. ABA bank statement, january 2025 (cambodian bank account with more than the 500k bath, a bit of an overkill but I thought better too much than not enough)

4. Employment certificate by my company AND employment contract, both signed by me, with a link to the company website and a short explanation of the company business.

5. Company incorporation document (with my name on as the GM)

6. General Assembly report, december 24, listing the 3 shareholders including myself. I was a tad worried as doc 5 and 6 were not in English but the highlighted parts with my name were clear enough

7. Proof of salary (XXXX€/month) paid by my company to my private account for the last 6 months

Altogether a smooth and efficient process, and they do work on weekends as my status became "approved" on Sunday afternoon.

t looked like a safer long term option to me than the soft skill route (easier to get presumably) as nobody really knows what further steps or evidence might be requested in the future, if/when they decide to tighten the screws on extensions

I would like (if I may) to recommend a friendly and affordable place to stay for the couple of weeks it took. I got a comfy large appartment a couple of minutes away by tuk tuk from the lively Russian market, called La Belle Residence , they made my stay as enjoyable as it could be. Please contact the guys next to my name for more info if yo think of going to Cambodia. They'll throw in a free airport transfer which was a nice touch.

For someone over 50 looking to retire in Thailand, what are the pro and cons of the new DTV and the Retirement Visa?

I will be applying in a few months, and I guess it’s fairly safe to assume it will still be available since it is still a new visa. But, has Thailand shared officially anywhere how long DTV is planned to be available for?

Success story (finally). First of all, thank you to the members of this group who had the patience to respond to my questions. This is a great community. I'll try to pay it forward and help other members as well.

It got approved in a little over 30 *working* days since application. It was high season and both my embassy and the Thai one had some holidays. You can consult this on your embassy's website. Still, after seeing so many people getting their visas in just a few days it was pretty discouraging. Makes me think some countries / passports have higher priority than others. But now it's here so here's how I applied and the docs I provided:

Applied for "Workcation (Digital Nomad / Remote Workers)". I had two previous entries in Thailand one on VOA and one on tourism visa.

It's great that you don't need to have flight tickets purchased, you can just fill in your expected flight no.

For accommodation - I booked a hotel for 1 month after my expected arrival. I made sure it had free cancellation up until 2-3 days before my expected arrival in case I wouldn't get the visa in time. But other than that I had no long term rent or anything.

Proof of current location - photo of my ID card (not even both sides, just the front). This one is always strange, but it worked for me with my previous visa as well.

The docs - I could not upload the full contract with my employer because of upload size limitations. So I uploaded just the first page with the title and the signing parties and the last page with the signatures. I also uploaded the registration certificate of my freelancing business. Combined all these pages into a single pdf. The contract actually doesn’t explicitly mention that I work remotely. I guess it’s implied since my client is in a different country.

Because it was taking rather long, I sent them an email yesterday asking to estimate how much longer it would take and if I can leave the country while I'm waiting. They never replied but today I got approved WITHOUT any further request for documents. I don't know if me emailing them was related to this or not.

So let me know if you have other questions.

As a small side note - I happened to stumble upon the google reviews of my embassy and it had a ton of 1-star reviews from people that were upset that their visas were not getting processed in time for their arrival. Maybe some of them didn't consult the timelines (they are longer for the high season), but I'm sure a lot of them did. Anyway, if you see something similar for your embassy, maybe consider going to a country where you can apply in person and maybe you'll get your visa faster, if you have the means and if time is an issue. Just a thought.

Can I apply for DTV while outside of Thailand but not within the country in which I'm applying? (For example if I'm currently in Japan, can I apply at the Hanoi embassy online?)

Guys I am reading the requirements for HCM [members only], and I have a few doubts.

2.2. Photograph taken within the last six months

What kind of photo, same than the photo for the passport? same size?

2.3. Document indicating current location

This is the hotel booking in HCM, for example?

2.4 Document stating purpose of visit:

Is there any template to have a look?

3) in case there is no employment, professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status.

Should my portfolio showcase my entire career, like a resume, or focus only on my work from 2024?

Should my portfolio showcase my entire career, like a resume, or focus only on my work from 2024? I'm asking because, in 2023, I worked as an employee, and this is my first year as a freelancer.

Thanks
