TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the new Digital Nomad Visa in Thailand, focusing on requirements for documentation, particularly for freelancers and those with online businesses. Key points include the need for financial evidence, potential tax liabilities for long stays, and questions regarding the application process, especially for non-home country applications. Comments express uncertainty about maintaining financial statements, the permanence of the visa, confusion surrounding tax obligations, and the types of activities acceptable under this visa.

Would it be possible to use 360 days and apply again for DTV?
Graham ******
@Nic ****
It's a 5 year multi-entry Visa, you border bounce every 180 days for 5 years if you wish
Alan ******
Specific requirements certainly will slow down the applications.
Jo **********
getting very weird want to water bills or electric bills
Petteri ********
There is an address of you current location in the bill, they want to see that. Not your water or electric consumption ;-)
Jo **********
@Petteri *******
ok ✅ thank you 🙏

@Jo *********
I used me driver's license. It's been a requirement for a few different visas, for awhile now. It's also the reason I feel comfortable applying for visas while in Thailand.

Does anyone have any idea how long the application process might take from start to receiving the visa?

Also does anyone have any confirmed information about applying when you are already in Thailand?
James *****
@Jake **********
can not apply within Thailand
Jake ***********
@James ****
Do you know if i can apply at an embassy in a neighbouring country? Or do you have to apply in your home country, if you know where I can read this information please point me in the right direction 🙏
James *****
@Jake **********
unknown….sorry

600 Australian dollars is 14,500 baht. Not 10,000 baht

So you can stay 5 years as far as you exit the country and re enter every year?
Johannes *****
What about tax and social security for remote workers with contracts in their homecountry?
Rob *******
So if doing MuayThai do you have to book 6 months upfront at a gym ?

Note phrases like “Participants” & “Attend the activity”
Rob *******
@Henrik ****
note phrases like “proof of confirmation to attend activity”
Andrew ***********
@Rob ******
letter of proof it seems.
Rob *******

Proof of training there for 180 days ?
Andrew ***********
@Rob ******
it says proof of confirmation to attend activity.

Moving from Canada with 3 steamer trunks. I’ve read you need a 1 year retirement visa to ship my stuff. Is there another way? No furniture.

not sure why you would need a visa to ship stuff, or where you read that.
Greta *****
Bare in mind that every time they reject your application, for whatever reason, they keep the application fee...🤐

I reckon anyone who ever posted or commented in this group is qualified 😜

I wonder what will happen if wanting to do Thai language or even Mandarin courses, it is not explicitly stated but says 'activities such as"etc?
Keiron ********
So after the 1st year of the 2 180 days what happens then, how long do you have to leave for, and how long can you stay year 2?
Andrew *******
@Keiron *******
as I understand it you get 180 days per year for 5 years and can extend by 180 days only once, in regards to how long you have to leave for that's the remaining 176 days of the year, so as it's multi entry I think many will maybe spread the 180 days through the year in 60 day chunks and visit home country or cheap neighbour country for the time needed out of Thailand
Erik *******
@Andrew ******
Totally wrong. Please start to read the documents issued before posting. It’s 180 days stamped per entry. Entries are unlimited. And after completing the 180 days after each entry you have the choice to do a border bounce and repeat OR extend within country for 10k THB . Each time.
Keiron ********
@Erik ******
thanks I've been told by some people you can only extend once, then on the 2nd year it's only 180 days as can only extend the one time. It's quite confusing ans don't want to come on the wrong visa
Andrew *******
@Erik ******
info source please as your right I do want/need to understand this visa
James *****
180 plus 180 doesn’t say can repeat
Andrew *******
@James ****
yes from what I hear the 180 day extension can only be done one time in the 5 years
Frank-Steven ***********
@Andrew ******
Not true. 180 days out and back in as often as you like. Or optionally 180 days + another 180 days extension possible at every entry. Please read the extensive information and laws I shared in previous posts.
Andrew *******
@Frank-Steven **********
ok so if can extend 180 every year then like I say 20k a year visa is not a bad price, wonder what agent fees will be
Brandon ************
@Andrew ******
it's not 20k per year. You can pay 10k one time and do 5.5 years with border bounces.

Or you can pay 10k one time per year, not 20k, to get 360 days without leaving.
James *****
@Andrew ******
conflicting answers on this
Andrew *******
@James ****
well if you can do the 180 every year then 20k a year for visa is not bad compared to ED
Matt ******
Classic thailand immigration leaving us to guess half of the rules and conditions
Henrik *****
Or simply wait some days ( or weeks ) until the embassies get their websites updated and make a FAQ.
Jordan ********
I love how people are handing over all the evidence they need to then request that you hand over tax money 🤡
Tommy *****
@Jordan *******
I cannot live life on ifs.. whatever happens, happens. If they happen to charge me tax, I'll pay. I have money, Im not a brokie. I rather not pay, and I'm assuming I won't have to. But again I cannot live in a what if world.
Andrew *******
@Jordan *******
the reason it's 180 day per year is so that you do NOT become liable for paying tax in Thailand, although the whole tax details are a mess the 180 has been clear from the start
Marc *********
@Andrew ******
180 days total … so if you exit and reenter you’re still liable
Andrew *******
@Marc ********
yep that's how I understand it, which is what I did say, I think many people forget that this is Thailand and they do move the goal posts a lot when something is new and also because to start they put out very unclear info people do read things how they want to which results in lots of misinformation and they don't like to be told what they said is wrong, end of the day anyone visiting Thailand is only ever a guest in the country and subject to any rule changes and people need to remember that....
Jordan ********
So by applying for this visa, you are raising your hand and letting them know that you would be happy to fall into their tax system. Have fun with that.
Jordan ********
@Tommy ****
and what happens if they scrap this whole thing after you openly admit that you are working within the country? You might have a hard time convincing them you're just here as a tourist after handing over all the evidence that you clearly are not.
Jordan ********
@Tommy ****
I'm not wound up. Seems like you're the one that's triggered by my comments lol
Jordan ********
@Tommy ****
we'll see. One department can say one thing, another acts differently. You guys can be the guinea pigs. They changed their tax code this year, so anyone staying in Thailand for 180 days this year is not being smart. Better to wait it out.
Jordan ********
"Residents are defined as persons residing in Thailand at one or more times for an aggregate period of 180 days or more in any tax (calendar) year."
Jordan ********
As soon as you hit 180 days, you're liable to pay tax. You'd be considered a tax resident of Thailand, and they would have all the evidence they need to prove it. They even let you extend for another 180 days so you can dig yourself a deeper grave lol
Eric *******
I’m an amateur bicycle racer so wonder if that is somehow part of the sports one?
Neil ******
If you show that you have a pulse, the government will let you in…at least until the swarms of low rent farangs come in and start acting poorly. I predict this visa won’t last long in this iteration.
James *****
Michael ********
Show your you tube channel, then they can check how much it earns for tax 😁

what tax? DTV is only up to 180 days stay, so no tax for Thailand 😉

180 days total in a year hoping the border 24 hours doesn’t reset tax obligations
Michael ********
@Sue *********
180 days per entry valid up to 5 years can all be back to back not minimum 180 per year. Will have to wait and see going to be difficult to enforce

$600 AUD at current actual exchange rate is = 14,619 THB. Quite a 46% premium from the official 10k THB. But known to happen.

£300 in the UK and 10,000 is £213😂

I can't find it on the London thai embassy website, Hove you located it?

it’s was through the visa web site, it knows I’m in the UK and charged in pounds

Pui *****
Imagine getting a 5 year visa by proving you frequently attend music festivals. What do you need to prove, that you have ferry tickets to go to Koh Phangan for a bunch of Full Moon Parties? 😁
David ********
@Pui ****
it's for dj
Pui *****
@David *******
not in the category it is in which is not for digital nomad or work. It seems to be for attendees. A DJ would need a work visa.
Steve *******
Everything is still unclear. Is the financial statement only for the initial visa application or does ir have to be maintained in a thai account for 5 years?

What kind of portfolio is accepted for freelancers?

Is it possible to apply in a country that isn't your home country?
Joshua *********
Does “Financial evidence” mean that this money is in the bank, or that you have evidence proving that you’re earning this annually? I assume the former, but maybe I’m wrong?
Andrew ***********
@Joshua ********
would think bank statement showing

0 or combination of both but not sure how they will work out pay slips, but I doesn't really explain that part. Also not the

baht they said it would be haha.

@Andrew **********
10,000 thb is the visa fee . 500,000 thb is the financial equivalent of what’s required for you to qualify for the visa .

@Del *****
yes I understand all that but $600 Australia $ doesn't =
*****
baht as they mentioned it would cost.
Ling *****
@Andrew **********
no it doesn't, it equals 14,400 baht. Why such a high mark up?
Andrew ***********
@Ling ****
no idea, guess they decided to charge more than was stated.

@Andrew **********
yea it said 10,000฿ yesterday 🤨
