Hey guys! I applied for TWO DTV visas one for me the other for my husband. His was rejected bc it says his passport exp date info doesn’t match the application’s exp date???? This is something that can obviously be edited. They just said REJECTED with no explanation.

Do you think I could talk to someone there or does this mean I’ve lost $400 and have to re-do his? I’m so confused help if anyone knows what I should do . Thank you in advance 🙏🏼

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reports that their husband's DTV visa application was rejected due to a mismatch between the passport expiration date and the application. Others in the community confirm that such rejections occur often and that visa fees are typically non-refundable. They recommend reapplying with accurate information, noting that the application process requires careful adherence to rules and potential typos can lead to rejection. The discussion emphasizes the importance of double-checking details before submission and acknowledges that the system does not permit edits once submitted.

That’s life… measure twice cut once…I evidently left out one digit from my passport number in my first app and it was rejected, fortunately I made sure everything was right before sending off the second app

Why did you both apply for the DTV visa at the same time?

IF you are legally married, One spouse obtains the DTV visa...

Then the other spouse applies for the DTV visa as spouse of the DTV Visa holder.

See section 5c bottom left column of the graphic.

A friend of mine who got a chinese name got a far worse experience, he typed in the middle name as all the English official website claims but his application got cancelled cuz according to the thai embassy, chinese folks have 2 given names and not a a given and a middle name. He showed them the screenshot from their official website claiming he followed exactly what they wrote there and you know what their reply was? "You tick that part of the applications that says that this won't be refund in any circumstance. (showing the screenshot of what they just claimed) Try again".

@Kyle *********
not clear what you said happened. My passport shows given name and surname. What is listed in my passport under given name is both my first and middle names.
Kyle **********
@John ******
chinese names got a surname and usually 2 names, as example Lin Yu Fang. Lin is the family name while Yu Fang is the given name. My friend Put Yu as first name, Fang as middle name. He lost 10k cuz the embassy said that Yu Fang has no middle name but he should have typed Yu-Fang as given name while the official website claims the opposite

You enter what is says according to your passport. Simple as that.

thanks guys I appreciate all the info
Anna *********
You have to fill in the details correctly Why would they edit it for you 🤣🤣🤣
Jacek *************
Yep it is basically a scam, 400 usd for typo is just robbery
Anna *********
@Jacek ************
it’s your responsibility to fill in the application correctly so it’s not a scam.
James ******
@Anna ********
perhaps you haven’t considered that no explanation is usually given for rejection. Which means it can be rejected without justification or recourse and the money is kept. What would you call that?
Luit *****************
@James *****
Rules for application are clearly stated at the website. By applying you confirm to agree with the rules. The rules are certainly not customer friendly, but you cannot call it a scam, if you don't agree, just don't apply.
James ******
@Luit ****************
I didn’t call it a scam. But let’s not pretend all the rules are clear or that taking money without providing the opportunity to address any discrepancies is a fair and reasonable process.
Luit *****************
@James *****
It is common in most countries, no possibilities to change, no refunds. Ther is nothing to accept or reject on this kind of processes. If you not agree the process there is only one solution, don't use it or get used to it.
Luit *****************
@James *****
I did not say you did call it a scam. I only said it is not a scam.

The process itself might not ne clear, but the rules are clear, no changing of data possible, no refunds, cancelling and rejecting possible without explanation.

If this is fair or reasonable you can discuss, they inform you this are the rules, but customer friendly is different, but then again we are not dealing with a commercial company, but with a government institute from which we want something and only they offer it.

@James *****
He's not, he's Dutch. I would take what Luit van der Linde says with a grain of salt. He's a bit of a narcissist who makes up claims like there being some sort of agreement where you can hold only one driver's license worldwide or some nonsense like that. Such a rule simply doesn't exist but if you tell him he's wrong he gets all upset and continues coming up with more BS.
Luit *****************
@James *****
I have no problem with English, you ended your post with "What would you call that?" after the previous poster told it is not a scam. My reaction that you can not call it a scam is perfect english, maybe you would have better understood it when I used "one" and not "you", but use of the word "you" was not incorrect here.
Anna *********
@James *****
so now immigration are just rejecting applications regardless just to keep your money Absolutely ridiculous comment what are you on.
Anonymous ******************
@James *****
I think 10k thb is for their process they will need to check all of your info, docs so even they find out that some of your info is incorrect but they also waste their time to check your application anyway that why they don't refund.

Also you want visa approval from them it's not they beg you to apply for this visa so it's your responsible to check all info to be corrected.

While other people they made it correct at the first and the embassy also do for 1 time checking process and approve for them so why they need to give you more privilege to edit and they need to check your application again and again?
Brandon ************
@Jacek ************
They tell you multiple times to double check and even give you a screen at the end to double check everything.
Jacek *************
@Brandon ***********
It is nonetheless the scam, you can always do a typo or get auto corrected, it is ridiculous that you cannot edit this for some small fee like 5-10 usd. Scam, pure scam, you cannot defend this. I will not even talk about that the forms are very confusing and you get ZERO live support help
Tim ***********
@Jacek ************
This Facebook group was created to give you all the support you need. We help each other, and it's better than any self-proclaimed professional visa agent. I read so deeply here that I ended up checking everything five times word for word, letter for letter with my own visa application. But typos aren't everything. It gets funny with "place of issue," for example. Without the help here in the Facebook group, I certainly could have applied for the visa three times.
Brandon ************
@Jacek ************
It's not their job to fix YOUR mistake for any amount of money.

Yup , my 20,000baht app in Vancouver was rejected for leaving my middle name off the first line where is said : Name________

Not first , middle last ,…..just name.

Apparently that part was supposed to match the passport.

They have since made it more clear ….but no refund for me…..so I spend my money in Vietnam instead . So there

@Eric *******
thats your error for

not writing the exact same thing as in your passport. its very well known throughout this group that you need to be 100% correct.
Eric ********
@Dany *******
sure if you’re a member of this group that don’t exist back then or of it said the first page was even an application . There was no indication it was even part of an application . Just a contact form on webpage . Said nothing else.

@Eric *******
this group exists for longer than the DTV exists. i got mine end july 2024 and this group was allready there as far as i remember ;)

@Eric *******
it's really silly how they do this.

These things don't happen when you apply for other visas and extensions in person in Thailand then they are helpful.

I don't know why they play so hard ball on this but it seems bordering on rude.
Yovanna ************

@Jonas ************
I thought you couldn't apply while in Thailand? Ive read you can only apply from another country
Jonas *************
@Yovanna ***********
yes, from what I understand you are applying at a specific country embassy outside Thailand and you might be called for interview, you also maybe need to prove that you already left country legally with stamps...
John *******
@Yovanna ***********
not DTV, but there are some , especially extensions, that are done in person at immigration, in Thailand

@Eric *******
What nationality? In US passports we only have two lines, given name and surname. Given Name line includes both first and middle names. This would line up with Name in the application. Does your passport break your first name out separate from middle names?
Eric ********
@John ******
Canadian but it was just a standard looking form , name Emil address phone for basic contact info on the first page of the website . No indication of having to match passport or that was even going to be part of the offical application . Next page was upload document and what is your passport number . It was the first week of DTV though . Forms is better now

@Eric *******
so you applied back in July?

@John ******
ya I was ontop of it

which embassy? Not many had evisa back then. I also applied in July, but it was paper based, in person.

Passport information CANNOT be changed. Any mistake is an instant cancellation without refund.

@Brandon ***********
hello there, i hope you can give me some guidance on this name question as well. at the end of the form before we click submit, is there a page where we go through all the details once more? So that we can see names must match our passport. And does this means it must be in the exact same order? My husbands name is John Lo Jui Sung. Lo is the family name. So it should not be shown as Lo John Jui Sung (because some systems show the family name first), in which case if it does, we’ll have to rearrange it? In his malaysian passport, it shows just ‘name’ as John Lo Jui Sung. So sorry for the long question. We’ll be applying next month and reading up posts, seems his malaysian-chinese name is a little complicated to fill in. Thanks for any help at all 🙏🏼

@Genevieve ***
Surname name Lo, and given name John Jui Sung.
Genevieve ****
Anonymous participant 697 yes this would be the universal way to do it. What im concerned is, the final page for submission will read LO JOHN JUI SUNG.

Whereas on the machine readable part of the passport reads

JOHN LO JUI SUNG.

Might this be considered a mismatch? Worried it might be the computers screening thru instead of humans
Brandon ************
@Genevieve ***
I can't give you guidance since I don't know.

You need to apply again, with the correct info. Evisa team cannot edit applications
Vovka ***********
You can only pay again. All fees are non-refundable, and I have a felling it's an automated process.

During the application process check literally everything. They have a poor text recognition system.
Luit *****************
@Vovka **********
Did you consider it also might be your scanner that makes it difficult to recordniveau text? Text recognizing depends on many factors. But what is really wrong in the application is that you can fill the items before scanning the passport and then the system writes possible wrong data over the correct data. They should force you to scan first and then ask you to check and correct.
Steve *******
All visa fees are non-refundable.

Apply again with the correct info.
John *******
As I mentioned on the other board, you lost the $400. You can search and see that this has happened to others
Tim ***********
You said that it was rejected without explanation, but the explanation is that the expiration date of the passport does not match the expiration date in the visa application. There is no chance of getting the money back, that's what happened to many people.
Greg ********
Unfortunately it usually means you have to reapply with the subsequent application fee.
