What should I do if my Thai visa application was canceled due to a passport expiry date error?

Admin if this post is acceptable I would appreciate the groups input

Interested to hear feedback on what seems to be a unique situation.

Applied DTV online 12th November using Malaysia as my application country (Australian passport holder with long term resident visa in Malaysia)

Received email request next day for 6 documents to be provided with two needing "Embassy authentication" (Malaysian Foreign affairs department authentication with notary endorsement as my company and employment contract are both Malaysian)

Managed to get both these completed in one day and submitted Thursday 14th along with passport all pages, proof of rental in Thailand and proof of income (even though funds proof had been provided)

Everything was perfect, until it wasn't..

Status show awaiting approval and then a system email was received stating

"Your visa application has been cancelled. Applicant’s date of expiry passport provided is incorrect with passport biodata page. (13 Sep 2033)

*Please note this is an auto generated e-mail. Please do NOT reply to this email."

(yes, 13th Sept 2033 is the correct expiry date)

I emailed Thai embassy with the passport attached showing the expiry as correct but received no reply

Has anyone experienced anything like this

#Note. When I loaded the biodata page at the beginning of the application as requested, the auto page came up stating passport expiry 1933 as below photo

I edited the application as instructed but I can only think that there is a web page glitch and I seem to have no recourse

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat applied for a Thai visa online but faced cancellation due to an incorrect passport expiry date showing as 1933 instead of the correct 2033. They completed the required documentation and submitted it promptly, but encountered a system error that led to the cancellation. Other users shared similar experiences with incorrect auto-filled information on visa applications, suggesting that system glitches are common and that applicants should verify all details before final submission. The original poster is considering reapplying but fears the same issue might occur again.

Don't use autofill. It often doesn't work. While I have so far never dealt with the Thai e-visa system, I deal with the Cambodian and Vietnamese ones a lot.

On the Cambodian one I did recently (for a business e-visa) I allowed the system to do autofill, then I had to go back and manually fill in all the fields. In the end, they didn't have a copy of my passport in the system when I went to check my application later.

I added one, but this reset the processing time, in the sense that the system told me I now had to select an entry date 3 days later. I probably shouldn't have touched it.

Fortunately, just 5 hours later my visa was issued.

Now of course, the Thai e-visa system may be different, but the point of my story is to be very careful about how you fill out these forms and don't go back and make amendments after submission unless you're able to contact someone about it or the system actually allows you to. Some don't.

Many people have had their applications denied and lost their money because of the websites auto info fill. Most others instead of 2033 it writes it as 2O33 the zero turned into the letter “O” but you are the first I read that 2033 turned to 1933. They keep this up its going to turn into a class action lawsuit.

there is some peace in knowing I am not the only one and that there is an issue with the website. Thank you for the comment, it is very appreciated

I can only think that after you edited it there was a needed 'save' button that was possibly missed.

that's actually a good and reasonable thought. I made sure I did it right the second time round. Let's see... 😅😅😂😂

please don't be offended, but you didn't edit the date successfully after the system had pulled 1933. at least you didn't save the changes. or you went back to upload the passport page again, after you had edited the date… anyway the 1933 was still in the system when you hit the final "submit". that is, why you don't get a refund. on the final summary, there is no glitch showing the right (2033) date but still secretly taking 1933.

Thank you everyone for the excellent comments, this may help others avoid this issue when using the E-Visa portal. All your comments and valuable time are very appreciated. At least I have clarity over whether pursuing the first fee would be a waste if time 🙏🏻🙏🏻

thank you, this sounds like exactly what what the most likely outcome was. Very well explained 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Does it ask you to check and confirm the info before actually sending the data? If so, then you won’t have any way to correct this and get sorted. It’s one of those really annoying situations that if you had actually checked wouldn’t have happened but shouldn’t have happened in the 1st place.

So I get your disappointment and frustration, but honestly, it’s a lesson learned for ALL paperwork moving forward.

Good luck with the new application. 😉

I think second time no need to pay again if paid and rejected on 1.But they want again.This is not fair

mine said 1932 also and i edited it then it said it again then on the final screen it was the right date. i think when you submit at the final screen that date is the one that counts. also there’s pics we are submitting with our passport so they can look at the pic and clearly see our correct dates..but maybe they want another 400$ fee or something instead of seeing the right dates on the pics we upload

I had the same thing when when i upload my passport page, i just changed it manually before submitting. I guess the auto reading does not work to well on their website

Thank you for the responses, they are helpful knowing I have done the only thing possible and sensitive (albeit expensive) by applying again and crossing my fingers and toes the same error does not occur. I VERY methodically ensured everything was correct and photographed every step this time

Yeah, this is a major problem with their online system. Unfortunately, 99% likely no one will help you. You are going to have to start over with a new application and new fee. This is one reason why many have been rushing to apply at in person embassies before they all switch to e-visa. When you fixed the year, did you take a photo of the update/correction?

I didn't take a photo on the first application no. What do you think the chances are of requesting a refund "after" I get approval and obviously after the visa is approved on the second application? I took photos of every step on the second application

@Darcy ***********
- oh that is a photo of the second application? I thought you were showing the first one, with it popping up as 1933. Your chances are 1%. Scroll back through the comments. I believe every response has been that the embassy has no control in refunds. Furthermore, you have no evidence that you even fixed it

@John ******
yes, you are 99% right I suspect. The obvious concern is of the system, despite inputting everything correctly, does the same thing on the second application

@Darcy ***********
this is why many opt for in person submission using paper applications

I actually didn't even consider this as I am here in Malaysia and simply followed "the rules". I guess I joined the group too late 😅

This is system error, when you upload your passport photo on 1 page of application. You need fix this date manually. 99% you will be rejected. You will need pay and send everything again:(

Why people dont pay after got approved i really dont understand this
