What should I do if my DTV visa application is rejected despite having all the required documents?

Hello, has anyone been rejected for the DTV visa even when they brought all the required documents? My partner and I brought everything and were told that we pay but we might won’t receive the visa and there would be no refund.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the experiences of individuals applying for the DTV visa in Thailand, particularly focusing on rejections despite submitting all necessary documentation. Many commenters share that it's common practice for visa applications worldwide to have non-refundable fees regardless of the outcome. Specific instances of rejection are mentioned, where additional documents were required without clear reasons given for denials, complicating reapplication efforts.

The fee paid to the embassy is non-refundable, this is a general rule. The staff only accepts your documents, the decision is up to the ambassador.

I heard someone was rejected due to soft power class was not acceptable for this visa and suggested to apply for ED instead.

That’s not only for Dtv and not only for Thai embassies. When you apply for a visa, the fee is not returnable if you get refused.

Indeed this is how most countries in the world handle visa applications, and it seems logical because you pay the visa fee for the handling of the application, not for the result.

That's fair, though the problem arises when the embassy does not tell you the reason for the refusal. This makes re-applying difficult, since you don't know what you did wrong, if anything.

It depends on the local policy and your luck. I've heard of some people getting rejected in Laos with no refund. I personally know a guy who applied in Phnom Penh, they accepted his documents. When he came a week later to collect his passport he was told his visa is not approved. But they refunded him the fee and didn't put anything in his passport.

He applied and got his visa in Saigon a week later.

Alex Petrov now there were a couple people years ago who paid for tourist visas at Vientiane, had them stuck in the passport then voided 😮 that's what they did for a while

AND

They used to routinely do that for visas they were going to deny in Phnom Penh, take the application, take the money, stick the sticker in and then stamp VOID on it so every consulate knew you couldn't get the visa issued by them.

That instance you mention of someone paying the 400USD in Phnom Penh for the DTV, getting denied and then refunded is the first I've ever heard of them doing it 😮

Good that he didn't get burned for the 400USD there and then have to go pay the 340 in Vietnam for the visa all over again (y)

Ummm, Alex Petrov actually no one gets rejected at Lao after paying the fee,

they talk to you at the gate and if you can't hit the requirements they don't even let you in

and then if you do get in

when you go to apply if you don't meet the requirements they won't even take your paperwork

AFAIK not a single person at EITHER thai consulate in Lao (Vientiane or Savannakhet) has paid the 10K for a DTV and then had their application rejected.

No matter which visa you have to pay for, it is non-refundabel, so nothing new there.

The embassy has to do the same amount of work regardless if the application is approved or not.

They even let you send in additional documentation, if the documents are not satisfactory, which gives the staff more work, with handling the application a extra time.
Egor ******
What documents they asked additionally?

meet the requirements for the visa and you will get it. Look at the Thai Embassy or Consulate website where you will apply for the visa for their requirements for the visa.

It's very common that you pay for a visa when you submit the application and if it's declined you lose the fee. Certainly it's that way for a Thai visa at immigration or embassies.

@Wannikea ********
Never heard of anyone refused a visa while in Thailand at Immigration.

so I don’t understand if most of the people get. Because if she send us back to being more papers and then she allows to send it so why she told us that we might won’t get. It’s a lot of money to pay

@Kevin *******
no, they send us back home to get more paper, (she is checking if we missed something before she send it) and before we go she said that even if we bring everything, it might have a situation that we will pay the application but won’t get the visa

@Eden *****
some embassy are nicer than others but it's good she looked over your documents before you submit.

They never give your money back if you are rejected I think there was a place on the application page that you have to sign that says that.

There has been many success stories in this group so I think you will be ok.

If you want to see rejection stories search the group for that key word.

@Eden *****
it’s unfortunate but it’s a new visa and embassies don’t fully understand it it seems, different places interpret the rules differently.

That's a common policy at many Thai embassies. But some, like the one in Yangon, only ask for the fee once your visa is approved.
